E92 DD vs F10 Diesel+E46 Weekender
Alright guys, here is my dilemma. At first I wanted to get an E92 and use it as a DD with some track time as well. Only problem is gas is pretty damn expensive, plus I want to hit the track WAY more often now that I've tried it. I think I'd probably treasure an E92 too much to risk it at a track haha.
So as an alternative I was thinking to get into an F10 5 series, probably a 535d or something of the sort, and then buy myself a low-mileage E46 as a track/weekend car. That way I get my compromise of the badassery of an M car, plus the luxurious comfort of an F10. I'm kind of torn between the ideas. I love all three cars, but I'm just not too sure about which to go with. What do you guys think would be a better idea? Should I just get the E92 and use it as a DD, or should I go with the F10+E46? What's your opinion on this? I wanna see what the best decision would be here. |

What type of commute do you have? If it's mostly highway then the mileage isn't that bad on the M3.
The price is somewhat similar between the F10 and an M3, so I'd do the e92 plus a track car. |

if you track weekly or a couple times a month get the e46 and f10. Mod the shit out of the e46 and make it a complete track car with slicks and tow it to the track with all the tq from the f10

E 92 M3 as your weekend/track toy, and an F10 of some sort as a DD.
That's what I would do, if plenty of money. if money is a limiting factor, I would stick to the E92 M3 as a DD and track toy. A proportion of the money that you save not getting the E46 and the F10 could be used for the extra fuel consumption on the E92 M3, and you still have left with an excess.

Also, I'll probably be doing track days pretty often though... not every week, probably a few times a month, or maybe once a month at the least.
As for the Porsche, I respect the Cayman's performance but Porsches are not for me. Can't stand the styling. Just my taste, that's all. I'd much rather have an E46 over the Cayman. Good call on the F30's price... but I like the roominess of the Five... hmmmm decisions decisions. |

Have you been paying attention to diesel prices? Ever since the low sulfur requirements came out, it costs more than 93 octane around here. I drive a 2005 cummins turbo diesel, and I would choose a hemi gas engine instead except that my diesel can pull just about anything with the bully dog tune and NV5600 6 speed, and it will run for a million miles. A diesel is not always better unless it serves a specific purpose.

Why not just E46 for now, and save for F80/82?

Where do you live? (on my iPhone)
Nvm you live in SoCal. Track days aren't as common as you think. Take this summer for example. There were hardly any. You have button willow, willow springs, auto club speedway, chuckwalla and maybe spring mountain if your up for a long weekend. If you literally don't do anything other than track days on the weekends its fairly difficult to go more than twice a month. You also find yourself hesitant about going when you just spent 1000-1500 on tires a month and a half ago. Point is, I track often, not as often as I'd like, but if you have a gf, wife, friends, or any kind of weekend responsibilities at all, you may not be getting out there more than once a month. (I didn't go for 4 months this summer, it was devastating) |
