Is it possible to retain California smog compliance with this kit?

There are no 50 state CARB approved kits for the M3. When u purchase the car, your smog is not for 6 years. If you have a friend it should pass out the tailpipe just fine if you still have stock cats.

If I read the smog laws in the State I live in (Maryland), correctly... We only get 2 years before needing to Smog Test on new cars.

These kits, if factory cats are retained, should not effect smog levels. Your tune is still well within tolerances, if not cleaner. Removing the cats will obviously have an adverse affect on the results of the smog test.

Correct. All supercharger systems are not legal in the State of CA and are for off-road use only. Our systems do pass the emissions and readiness tests.

I really don't understand that part about CA. I mean, if all emissions equipment is hooked up and connected and functions (without any bypasses) and your car can run and pass a sniffer test - what is the big deal?

Here in Ontario our smog testing is pretty tight although having a blower on it won't make it fail any tests unless your catless. We do not test for OBD2 readiness here yet.

Visual is visual, it's simply part of the testing procedures. Serious business in CA.

2013 will move to a different form of testing in CA, eliminating sniffer tests for vehicles manufactured after 2000: http://www.smogtips.com/new-smog-law-AB-2289.cfm

So if one was to get the VF540 91 octane file, and then wanted to reflash to a 93 octane file for a track event, can he do it himself or does he need to contact VF through some kind of remote tuning method?

Its nice to see that many of the components on the VF540 are the same proven components as the VF620 kits.

Question: by using the same injectors as the 620kit and simply detuning them ... do the injectors still retain optimal vaporization (mist) of the fuel flow at slower cycles/speeds?

It looks like a great kit. I must admit, I am very interested how it will perform in the heat or on the track. Keep us posted.
