Has anyone had a problem downloading the latest BT software from BMW? There is a field to enter the "last 7 digits" of my VIN. But, the last characters of my VIN begins with the letter 'E', then is followed by 6 numbers. I tried entering the last 7 characters and got back an error that the VIN was not valid. I then tried (grasping for something) changing the letter 'E' to number 5 (5th letter in the alphabet) and got the same error.

My car is a 2011 328i Coupe xDrive 10/10 build date.

What did I miss? Any help is appreciated!

Yeah that's weird, I'm trying my own now and it's failing, even though I've downloaded it before. Maybe wait it out? Or if someone has the update package stored locally maybe post it up?

You definitely start with the letter E in your VIN though; mine does too. Fun fact: That letter tells you which plant assembled your car. I believe E is Regensburg.

EDIT: Now entering the VIN just causes the blue circle to keep spinning; maybe their site is being hammered, or perhaps they're in the process of posting a new version of the update.

UPDATE: I can only guess that I needed to try the download 7x before it works. I was able to download the .bin file. Next step is to upload it to the car without damaging the engine...

If anyone else has a problem downloading the updated BT bin file, keep trying...

I was able to download updates using the last 7 characters (mine also started with an E then ###...) yesterday but I still don't get messages, emails or SMS. I'm using iPhone 4S with iOS 6 and 2011 E92 M3. Any body have ideas?

Did you go back and read any of this thread for how to set this up and what to expect when it works, like maybe Post 94 and several posts under that? If you did, then let us know what you've already tried to help us give you meaningful troubleshooting tips. If you didn't, then

Yobao - I also have an iPhone 4S with iOS 6, but not the M3 (hopefully its my next car). My 2011 328i Coupe was mfg'd in 10/10 and has the Combox option. Since I upgraded my 4s to iOS 6 I have been able to receive TXT messages, but not email. I'm upgrading the BT with the .bin file I just downloaded. I'll post the results.

Spotty to no email notifications is a currently known issue believed to be an iOS bug since it worked in early iOS 6 betas and broke in later betas and remained broken for the final release. That too was just discussed a few posts up. But as I've mentioned earlier in the thread, I already lose way too much of my life staring at email, no need to pollute the enjoyment of my car with even more of it IMHO.

I just downloaded iOS6 over the weekend to iphone 4S.
Still no texts coming thru.
Should I download BMW bluetooth software update ??

Start by reading the thread, which mentions that yes you should download the Bluetooth update. You also need to go into the Bluetooth settings for your phone, tap the blue arrow next to the entry for your car, and turn on Show Notifications.

OK I have read the thread. Have iphone 4S with os6, updated the vehicle software to the latest version followed the directions in the thread, I am getting nothing, maybe I missed something or am I just thick!

It worked until IOS6 beta 3 but stopped working with the later versions, incl the official IOS6. Some textsmessages will come through but thats about it.

On iphone, go into Notification menu. Select Mail.
in Show option- select 5 or less
in your email accounts option- TURN ON Show in Lockscreen

bam, now you will see email.

but you will only see email that is on your lock screen, not older messages.

The idea is that you dont touch your phone while driving, and when a new email shows up it will appear on the idrive so you arent distracted and pick up the phone.

To me, the settings are clear and I had this working (Iphone 4S) until the beta 4 of IOS6. Same for the Iphone 5 so hoping for a fix soon.

works just fine on the iPhone 5 (2013 X5), both text and email as long as you follow the instructions I posted above.
I get all new messages and they appear instantly on the drive (within a second of hearing the tone on iPhone)

Don't see why not. The website only asks whether you want to see English or German; doesn't seem region-specific.

Is it still working for you?
If so, do you have the official IOS6 installed?
As you can read in this topic and many other topics, it does not work for many others so it puzzles me why it still works for you.
The settings are correct but only text messages are shown, no e-mail.
You have a X5 but cannot imagine it to be a hardware issue.

The GM (Golden Master) release is very buggy. Email is not working and text/sms is intermittent. Wait for iO6.x or a BT update from BMW to happen.
