+1....it's why I don't go with the "permanent" options out there where the radar receivers are in the grille of the car, because pushing the detector higher increases detection range.

Cheers,

Get a device called an "Add a circuit" that will connect directly to the fuse box. You can literally crimp/solder these onto the Valentine hardwire kit for the best hardwire without splicing into existing circuits.

That looks like a good mount, I think I'm going to order one. I currently have the one from CountryJoyCrafts and don't like it bc it limits the movement of the rear view mirror so it's not in the ideal spot for me, plus it leaves a gap between the mirror and the V1.

So my mount finally lost suction today and was dangling from the cord when I got to my car. I was wondering how long it was going to be until this day came. I am still pleased as it lasted a long time and I just simply put it back and maybe in 3 months I will need to do it again. I think this mount has done very well and I recommend it to anyone that may be interested.

What color overlay?

Here is the link for the V1 and the concealed display with the overlay kit. I wrote V1 years back asking them why they do not do anything like this and never got a reply. Then I stumbled across this company. I believe the guy does them out of his house. You can purchase the equipment new already modified or send him your equipment and he will modify them and ship it back. Turn around time is really fast.

http://www.radar-mirror.com/Store_V1.html

I love how you can tell which band is going off just by the colors. With a non-modified V1 in the dark you will not know exactly which band is alerting.

I highly recommend this mod. If looks identical to the original screen just with colors.

Unless his pricing has changed I believe it was $50.00 for the V1 and $50.00 for the consealed unit to be modded + shipping.

I did not mod my V1 in the truck as I use teh consealed display. No reason there since the V1 lights are off anyhow. I did mod the V1 in my E90 as I am not using a consealed display in there. Hope this helps.

Another update regarding this suction cup mount. I am extremely pleased and recommend this to everyone. I installed the mount in my Tundra on 7/3/12 and today it decided to fall off in the extreme heat. For just shy of 3 months being stuck on my windshield with all the driving I do it has held up well. The best part is that it is super easy to put back up.

The last time the suction cup mount fell off my car was on 5/26/12 and it is still hanging on. Though this car is rarely driven and garaged it has done well too. I am a little over 4 months with the mount in the car and still strong.

This thread is not about the blendmount but another maker of these types of mounts.

I like this. I had my V1 stolen out of my 335 parked 12 feet from the restaurant's front door at around 1PM on a Sunday several months back.

I agree with you when you say it's hard too see which band is going off when it's mounted up high by the mirror. I used to have mine lower before I hard wired it, and I felt it looked not only tacky, but impaired my vision of the road sometimes. Iv been using it for about a year now and I know the difference in bands by ear well enough, that i don't even look at it anymore.

It's just a comparison of the two.

Yours is not concealed since you still have your V1 openly visible!

If you do the mirror display then you should move your V1 to the rear shelf deck and hide it with a custom box like we did here:

I went one step further and put mine in the headrest which takes it COMPLETELY out of visibility.
