Superficially, it's hitting all the right marks, but Lightning comes up short in a number of important areas. It is, of course, incompatible with the roughly 350 million billion iPhone and iPod accessories currently on the market -- a problem mostly rectified by a $30 adapter. What's wrong with Bluetooth audio!!! Plus it's almost 2013... we shouldn't have to rely on wired connections anymore!!!

I for one don't even listen to music on my iPhone anymore since I subscribe to Sirius.

I'm looking forward to iOS 6 release tomorrow so I can test out the ability for my iDrive to read out my text and email messages.

I didn't have time to read the article as I'm mobile but I don't see what the problem could be? Connect your iPhone via Bluetooth and voila you can stream all your music and make/receive calls. Or is this whole scene regarding the emails and texts etc coming up under the Office tab?

FYI my BlackBerry works perfectly with that feature, come on BlackBerry 10!!

Im down to connect via bluetooth and use a lightening car charger to charge the battery while audio is playing

Well, if you read the whole review, it literally says Apple knocked it out of the park. Is every aspect improved for everybody? Of course not. I'm sure there will be a solution, and the phone should still pair fine over Blutetooth. I'll have mine Friday and this is not a huge deal.

There's a long thread in the forum's "Connected Drive/Audio/Video/Electronics..." section, that's been ongoing for a few days about this.

Short summary: with the Lightning adapter, you will not get all of the video capabilities to the screen that you might have used previously. Otherwise, most will work fine.

We can probably expect a new BMW Media Adapter later; but I've found mine to be mostly useless anyhow, and will make my soon-to-be-old iPhone 4s a permanent 64GB music player that resides in that Media Adapter.


P.S. the iPhone's 30-pin connection is about 9 years old, and was created for the iPod. After about a decade, it makes sense to go from an analog connector to the 8-band digital connector of the new version.

yup, aftermarket companies i.e. not apple, are already making adapters (i don't think they're released yet. DO NOT BUY THE APPLE ADAPTER...it is 30$ but doesn't support music or video-apple is leaving that to the aftermarket companies to do.

My mission is that I always use MOG through the cradle and I pay for MOG since its compatible through the interface. I'm wondering if once I receive the new phone, my 4 will still connect, or if there is a way to still have it connect until a new cradle comes out.
