Nav & "Hump" Poll
So I am considering ordering my 2013 M3, spec'd exactly as I want it - as I'm growing impatient trying to find a perfect used e92..
I've sat in/driven both versions, with and without nav. I've felt that the "double hump" dash with nav made the environment more cozy feeling, and I felt like the dash was wrapping around me more which I like. At the same time I am a minimalist, and am interested in a minimalistic sports car. In the non-nav car (I experienced this one first) I felt more bored with the interior, like there was a lot of wasted space in the dash, and I hated that it didn't seem to wrap around me like the e46 dash. As someone with a career in the field of visual arts I am naturally very obsessed with the way things look and feel. So, what do most people think about this from an aesthetic perspective? Do you prefer the hump? or no hump? I am mostly interested to know if I am the only one who thinks this changes the feeling of the interior dramatically.. ![]() ![]() Please vote! Ordered my E90 w/ navi and no regrets!
VERY nice option. Saved me a few times (esp during my ED Trip). Some say it will make the car look more dated in a few yrs but i dont care.

I've considered that as well, and don't think the e92 nav could ever make the car look dated. Why? There are no buttons attached to it like the e39/e46/e53. It is just a flat screen, so only the software will look dated.

Good pt on the non navi option. From the pics I've seen on the non navi versions, just seems like something is missing.

dash looks soooo much better w/ out Nav IMO as that's what I have and wanted. I could care less about the nav. there's no wasted space in a non-nav car as most cars only have one dash opening over the gauges so I don't really know what you're getting at. IMO you're post sounds a little eccentric lol, just buy the car already. Maybe I am too impulsive as I buy everyhting I want on the spot but I don't get all the posts about people going back and forth forever before even getting something esp an M3. If you want it you gott have it now.
rant over, and not directed towards you OP; Good luck on your search! |

I realize many new cars have nav, etc. but from my aesthetic standpoint, and all older "purist" cars, they have a flat dash w/ a hump over the gauge cluster. It maintains its' driver centric feeling. I dunno, to each his own, as I'm sure there are split opinions on the matter

I think a large majority have Nav. So if resale is a consideration...
Although I think there will be at least some enthusiasts seeking the non- Nav and 6MT optioned cars years from now... I much prefer the dash without Nav... but if you prefer it with the double hump... get what you want more.

I'd get the navi. Aside from looks, I think this version (and the newer on the F30) of iDrive are pretty awesome. The BMW apps with MOG and Pandora are worth it if you intend to be in the car for any duration of time. Plus you can access email from your bberry (I have a bberry for work and a personal iPhone, so I have lots of infotainment of you will die to iDrive). If it's a weekend toy, it's not worth it. The engine is music to my ears. But mine is my daily driver and with a long commute I've grown to live the features of iDrive.

I prefer the look of the dash without the second hump from an aesthetic perspective however I think the functionality of the nav screen (nav, diagnostic, m drive setup) outweighs the looks. I would order nav.

I don't have any need for the nav, but with ZCP, you don't get some of the special features w/o iDrive, such as the Sport + settings. Kinda pissed me off when I found this out after getting my brand new 2011 e90
![]() Mine is pretty stripped, btw. I love the manual seats, but I miss the great sound of the premium sound system. That is my only regret (and not having the special Sport+ settings )

double hump screen distracts me, I turn the brightness down. But to get Navi in the car with full integration, there's no alternative.

I actually think the 3D rendering is overrated, but perhaps the locations you drive in have better/more renderings. Considering the lack of buttons, letterbox and split-screen, car settings and info, perspective view, integration of satellite images, real-time traffic, phone integration, and audio integration with combox I'd actually say iDrive is one of the better units out there, although the nav functions themselves sometimes are irritating and possibly life-threatening (I need to get my maps updated as my last trip to Vegas the nav tried to send me on to a free-way offramp...good times). |

The hump is so sick. It will never get dated. Way better than the new f30 that has a screen just popping up out of nowhere that looks retractable but really isnt.
Also protects from dust getting ont he screen, or minimizes it at least |

I have navi, but if I were going to get my car again I would probably single hump. Though I enjoyed it during European delivery, I keep my cars for a long time so in the future the nav is going to look outdated (it already does actually compared to what I can get on my phone or tablet even).
The only reason I really got it is because it's required for Enhanced Premium Sound and was required for "tech package" with EDC/M Drive when I ordered my car.
