i don't see any problem. The sti hatch is pretty kewl looking car.
Sure it's no M3 but as you have mentioned you needed the room for your baby. Also you did not want to spend another 50k for a sedan. So the choices are very clear.

Not just no, but HELL NO!! No interest in a "rally" car, what ever that is!

I just sold my 06 sti that had a 300 whp/306 trqe. Car handled great, had lots of power and was overall really good to me. No problems even with a tuned engine running 19.5 pounds of boost for over 60k miles.

I wanted something more luxurious but still had raw power.

I will start driving my 2010 m3 daily on this Tuesday and will report back. I cant imagine i will want to go back to the sti..

As a matter of fact, i'm starting to save money to buy a cheap wrx as a DD.
This. I have a '12 wrx hatch and actually drive it more than my '11 e92. Sound system was the worst ever, in any vehicle I've been in. No clutch/shifter or steering feel. Just be prepared to spend some money modding it and it'll be a great DD.

Traded in my 2011 WRX for a 2011 e92 m3, best decision ever.

Exactly, Subaru's are rattleboxes and are dull/boring in the handling department*. My STi was fun when I was a teenager but the challenge quickly faded into grating sounds of understeer.

*This statement does not apply to the new BRZ which is actually quite nice but impractical as all pure sports cars are

It's no M3, but I'd do it, at least for a little while. Variety is good. Then maybe jump into a F30 afterwards
