Cleared CEL from smartphone

Picked up a new SGS3 a month or so ago, and wanted to try some cool apps. Came across one called Torque available on the android app stores, upon further investigation it required an OBDII to Bluetooth dongle.

So I had a new AA Green filter installed and bought the dongle and the day after, I got my first CEL 5500km into this stint with an HFC AA xpipe.

Torque is pretty easy to use, has useful logging capabilities (see pic below), can diagnose some codes. You can configure your own PID's and log and graph on the go. Had it all set up and running within a few minutes upon recieving the package.

M3 ECU apparently supports these sensors:

Naturally I was pretty blown away by this and figured I'd share it with the forum, see if anyone else might find this handy. The dongle and the app cost me $25.

Doesn't look like iPhone users have this app. Did a quick search on the app store and couldn't find it but if I'm wrong someone chime in. I feel like this would be a temporary fix? Idk keep us posted for sure

Nice find! I am ordering this now.

It might be a great idea to consolidate apps that we've tried and work well.

I have been using an app called Trackmaster for a couple of years, and the author continually updates it, adding more features. It's an advanced lap timer that shows overlayed laps, braking/accel zones, and logging.

The author also has a Live View app that your friends can watch your laps from the paddock/pit.

(I have nothing to do with this app/author, and just find it handy)

I have an app for the iPhone called Dash Command (many other's available) that does basically the same thing. It connects wirelessly to a device called Kiwi PLX (http://plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=GSSTWIFI) which connects to the OBD2 port. It's pretty useful diagnosing those pesky CEL!

There are alternatives out there, just there is an issue with how Apple uses bluetooth, long story short, you have to pay extra to develop bluetooth functionality. So wifi (for $150) is your only option unless you can find an app that will go with one of these OBDII adapters.

http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Bluetooth_Adapters

Maybe a micro usb would work, I don't know.

Larryn, this also has a plugin called trackrecorder, though it is admittedly kind of secondary to the realtime data logging. And for us 6mt's we can have shift lights, kind of gimmicky this one.

Little vid of the track recorder.

I was skeptical about the 'latency' of the data using a cheap bluetooth device, but happy to report it's not bad at all, just use the faster communication option in settings.

Pretty nifty gadget for $25.

I'm surprised your car didn't throw P0420 for Bank 0 also.

I have been running this for over a year to clear codes associated with my HFCs. The Torque developer is very committed to the development of the app and continues to provide updates and improve the product. I would recommend to anyone who is interested, for under $40 (app + OBDII) it is a great option.

There is a bluetooth option for the iPhone, http://gopointtech.com/products/bt1/ , you can find it on sale for $69.

Sweet good info, which apps like this use bluetooth?

Sidenote, you can combine GoPro video with the data (up to .1 second intervals) from Torque using Trackmaster. For those of you who like to record their track days.

I used REV APP with my KIWI WIFI but the APP doesn't support my new BT1, it does support DashCommand but I don't own the app. So I have been using the free APPs that gopoint has for codes.

It also works with harrys lap timer.
