Akra is pretty quet but you'll need a tune to get rid of the start-up rumble. It's pretty loud. Some have said it lacks soul up top, and I get what they're saying because it doesn't howl and rumble like a race exhaust does up top. It's plenty good, but I'm withing I used a stainless 200cpi X-pipe instead of the EVO X-pipe.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

OP said he wnts quiet while cruising and loud when going all out. That's the Dinan and Catless mid racing pipe combo.

As some have mentioned, the MPE would work. Slightly louder than stock cruising and quite a bit louder WOT...not crazy loud though, just a nice balance of exhaust note and engine/induction roar.

Will the Dinan muffler alone give me a decent result, or do you really need to delete the secondary cats?

The Dinan will satisfy your desire in either form....cat back or full system. I find it to be quiet when just cruising. As Frank referenced.......when you get on it people know play time is over.............Phil

this is your answer op. sounds like the perfect match for you. i've heard this setup and it's pure awesome. quiet at idle and cruising but just beast at wot. you can't go wrong but just the muffler alone won't do much if at all for what you want. any exhaust even stock will scream at wot

Dinan all the way!!!! I was at a dealer track day and Dinan had a few demo cars out that day. I placed my order the next day.
Went with Muff and mid race. It purrs at low rpms and wakes the neighbours at redline.
Cant wait to get it back to the track to feel the full power gain as well.

the BMW M performance is nice, but there's just no way I can justify the 4k price when you could get an eisenmann for that. I'd look at the dinan, its cheaper but has some serious kick when you punch it but settles right down when ur cruising. It's also way $$ for what you're getting but axleback exhausts are always a waste of money performance speaking, its just for the sound.

swapping out the mid-section is what you're looking for. high flow cats provide a split personality - they aren't heard too much when you're at idle or cruising, but when you're accelerating, they make the engine sound a lot more gutsy. the other way to go is a valved exhaust. I did both and couldn't be happier. when I have the valve closed, it sounds as quiet as stock. when I have it open and then hammer the throttle, it's insane.

Can't believe that nobody has mentioned the Gintani hybrid mufflers.. I hear it gives you that quiet cruising sound of the OEM muffler and at WOT it sound like the Gintani race maybe less 5%. Check it out.
