Grosjean 1 race ban...
Quote:
He should have been punished the same way as any other similar incident. It should not matter if he takes out the entire field, 1 guy, or no one; If someone makes an illegal move they should get punished the same way everyone else has been in the past. There have been countless similar moves that resulted in accidents and minor penalties, or in many cases no penalty at all. So simply because this one piled up he is banned for a race? He should have had a grid penalty and that's it. It should not be a case of he squeezed the other guy off track but it's ok because he didn't crash or because he's not a title contender or because the guy conceded.

Considering Maldonado has taken out far more competitors in his careless wrecks, it does seem out of line.

It's all because points leader Alonso got punted... I'll bet Ferrari did some arm-twisting.

I'm sure that McLaren had a role in it as well.

If it had been Hamilton causing the wreck what would they have done? I can see them banning someone for an utterly reckless move (ahem - Maldonado), but this was an odd start with Kobayashi having a campfire on the #2 position and Maldonado deciding to leave early so he could beat the traffic. It was clearly Grosjean at fault, but he was not the only loose screw out there.

What you guys have overlooked is that he has been involved in 7 start of race crashes this year. That's 7 out of 12 races. He wasn't responsible for all of them, but for quite a few. So many people don't want to be starting anywhere near Grosjean.
I hope he uses this time to think about how he can be less accident prone.

True but the punishments in F1 have always been inconsistent. I mean how many times have they allowed someone to win the world championship by crashing into another competitor?

I don't anticipate it will ever get better. The FIA is very arrogant.

Absolutely.
I remember a ways back seeing Jean-Marie Balestre lecturing the F1 drivers (Senna, Prost, et al) and thinking, "What an arrogant prick this guy is!"

That's harsh. It wasn't the best moment and a bit clumsy first corner accident.
But that does not deserve a race ban, perhaps a repremand and fine or 3-5 grid penalty. Schumi rear ended into Senna in Catalunya this year, he got a grid place penalty. Turkish Grand Prix 2008, first corner similar incident where it sent a Force India or something in the air. No such harsh penalty given. Like Ron Dennis said in the 90's to the FIA, "What is the consistancy?"

The reason there was no action against Schumi is because Red Bull went to see the stewards and told them there should be no action against Schumi because Vettel was asked to do opposite of what Schumi did even though the red bull crew was in the pit lane.

Race ban is prolly a little harsh, but Grosjean has a history of knocking people out and being stupid. He needs to tighten his shit up.

This is by design.
Something I think we should all keep in mind. Power corrupts. The FIA and FOM may try to look fair and organized towards the public. But don't think that the men at the top don't have agendas or whims that drive the direction of the entire sport. If you want a glimpse of it, watch Senna again. Jean-Marie Balestre demonstrates in the drivers conference and penalty of Senna to what extent the power the officials in the FIA/FOM have. It is an exclusive club and Ferrari has always been near the top of it as well, because they are Ferrari. Is this a bad thing? Not if you are on the 'in' side. Will it ever change? Nope, so best get used to it.
