Need advice - M3 splashed with red paint
Hey all, I need some advice.
My baby is usually garaged, but I left her in the street Thursday night since I was leaving early Friday morning on a road trip. I found her like this in the morning. Red paint. It was already dried so a wash wouldn't help. Are there any products to remove the splashed paint without removing the clear coat? Or do I need to repaint her completely? She's leased and insured, with a $1000 deductible. Thanks all. Rob P.S. I don't know definitively whether it was vandalism or an accident... but no other car had any paint on them. Soooo class warfare? |

That completely sucks! I would suggest talking to a body shop or detailer (I am sure that one will chime in on this board) as either can suggest the best way to possibly remove the paint and preserve the paint. Good luck.
Any security cameras in the area?

That is so foul. wow.
But on the other hand, I do not think it will need to be repainted. I believe it can be weakened first then it may be able to come off. Post on autopia.org Those guys over there know their stuff. best of luck. |

Every time I see a thread like this, I make a note of where OP lives and tell myself I'll never live there as long as I have my car.
Best of luck to you man, and sorry about the unfortunate chain of events.. |

WTF!?!?!?! Man that is horrible what they did to your car. Look for professional advice (shop/detailer). I hope you can fix this soon. Good luck.

All you need now is the 2shades of blue and you have yourself a M abstract flag.
But yeah before you do anything talk to a detailer first. Theres a chance that can be removed without repaint. If any cut and buff or worse case sand and re clear that area. btw It might not be intentional. It could have been a construction truck spilling some paint as they drive by. |

Are you sure it isn't blood of the 1%?
On a serious note, I think I would cry and puke if this happened to my car. If it was vandalism, maybe your insurance will cover it completely??!?! Good luck OP!

WFT?!
Take it to a good detailer, they might be able to clean it up with no issues. Also, buy a gun... Or.... start modding the shit out of the car, turn it into a race car, and leave the paint as is... looks kinda cool. ![]()

That really sucks, my advice would be to try not to get much sun or heat on it and take it to a paint/detail place that knows what has to be done in that situation. Something similar happened to me: I got acrylic paint on my hood because of some douche, it got really hot and dried up but I could still remove it, so I removed it but it left a mark that was later polished out.

Assuming it's normal paint and not one of those two part types of paint that requires a catalyst like car paint or industrial paint, it will come off fairly easily with acetone or something like that. Car paint normally totally resistant to most over the counter solvents and paint strippers, so being able to dissolve the red paint without effecting the car paint won't be a problem. The parts other than the paint, like trim or the plastic headlights will likely be a different story, since that acetone or something like that will likely disolve it a little and make it cloud, which would require polishing to get it gloss again. But if it's a surface that has more a flat or satin surface, that might be more of a challenge.

Damn dude that is AWFUL. So sorry to see that. To the extent that it was "hate" - well, wow - this far exceeds the typical keying, etc. I once left my M3 parked on the street in Manhattan (UWS, before I moved to LA). I awoke in the AM to find my car covered in vomit - roof, windshield, hood. It really was disgusting. Fortunately, something like that washes off easily. Paint, however ...
