No u do not need the connecting pipes as Long as u don't mind cutting up your stock exhaust where it meets with your stock muffler.
I have the eisenmann sport on my car without the connecting pipes. Some people have an issue cutting the stock exhaust. Eisenmann muffler will join to your stock pipes with a sleeve clamp, just be sure to cut at the right place. If u cut too much then u have to get some custom pipe work done at your local exhaust shop. Ie, measure twice, cut once |

besides bolt-on advantages...is there any other reason to get the eisenmann connecting pipes with the eisenmann muffler?

I would have to measure the piping to verify any differences.

I don't think there are any noticeable differences in either weight or sound in regards to just the connecting pipes. The Eisenmann canister is actually quite heavy and most likely any reduction in total weight over stock is probably fairly low.

Axlebacks provide 3 essential changes over OEM systems: - Weight Savings - Exhaust Note/Tone - Tip Design It's rare power gains are achieved with any axleback system.
