I like this sound. I would really like more video/soundbites! I am guessing the Dinan x-pipe give the Akra a bit more rumble.

I had Akra evo installed. Very popular and the finish on the exhaust is just amazing. Felt the gain instantly. The cold start really ruin things. I didn't bother to get ECU tune and CEL is on. The drone at 2~3k rpm is just stupid. Anyway, I had iPE F1 installed 2 weeks later. Sound is purely subjective. iPE F1 blows Akra away. Enable on/off/auto on exhaust is pretty amazing. I like mine, my m3 sounds very very exotic. I see a lot of M3 with Akra and the sound is just Man, Now. I can't find my remote. I just lost it underneath the seat.

Since nobody has mentioned this one yet, I'll tell you my favorite is the M Performance. I've had the E.Race and AA and have heard the Akra Evo. The E.Race is my favorite sound wise but it drones, as does the AA. I'm not a fan of the Akra tone. The M Perf is the exhaust I'm happiest with right now. Light weight, looks great to me, absolutely no drone and sounds awesome and yes it's got balls...literally. Just paint those sucka's!

Thanks for all advice guys. I feel that I own you the result :-).

Couple of weeks ago I was down racing at Tor Poznan (Polandīs only race track and actually a former F1-track), for three days, whit some 100 people mainly from Sweden, but also from Denmark, Norway, Russia etc. (http://www.granturismoevents.com/gra...-polonia-2012/).

There was another guy from Stockholm down there with his M3 GTS (one of two sold GTS's in Sweden), and as this guy had a BMW M Performance exhaust system in Inconel laying in his basement (for no use) from an old m3 "lightweight build", I was offered a quick deal. As the price on this barely used BMW original part was decent, and as he claimed the sound was identical to his original BMW GTS system (which I thought was perfectly raw) , it was a deal. I was invited to come along for a few laps in the GTS and I can tell you, it is an extreme BMW, that one (however, more of that another time) :-).

I can live with the fact that the system doesn't add any extra HP, when knowing it shreds about 10 kg off the total weight, is built in a material common within F1, and has a sound that is just incredible nice. Ok. It doesn't sound as a jet flight, but on the other hands, no drone inside, whatsoever is created. To sum up - I am really satisfied!

Over and out.

For cat-back (and no xpipe), the BMW M Performance exhaust is a nice option. Been very satisfied with mine. Can get it for around $3.2K USD with a parts coupon/promo at some local dealers or some online dealers who offer free shipping. For a cat-back, it's actually one of the few that had any performance gains, (per Eurotuner Magazine test) without any funny hp/torque dips, there is zero drone, is very civilized (not booming noise) at idle, sounds great at WOT, is designed by BMW engineers for the perfect sound, you still have full warranty coverage, and is much cheaper than other weight-saving Inconel systems on the market.

Congrats! It's a great exhaust that really compliments the M3 nicely. It's not the best in any one area but overall? Sounds familar.

I was under the impression that the OEM exhaust mod was essentially making it into a MPE. I guess for the price of a MPE and having to modify it to make it louder one might as well consider buying something else.

That's subjective but I would say no. I love the Akra Evo system. It sounds fantastic.

I'm partial to my setup. Vanguard cat back, AE x-pipe with HJS HFCs.
