2008 RS4 = 450 hp

Don't know if anyone heard or saw this but it seems that the new M3 and C63 AMG have spooked Audi into increasing the RS4 from 420 to 450.

I believe the 2008 RS4s are already on dealer lots and they're equipped with the same engine as the 2007 model.

Maybe there is a 450hp RS4 "plus" in the works? Audi did this with the RS6 so it's not inconceivable they'd do it again.

Audi have stopped taking orders for RS4's, they're launching the RS6 in 2008. They have a policy in that they won't produce different classes of RS's simultaneously. Commercially a stange take but fantastic for their customers.

adrock, this is an old rumor which came about right after the rumor that RS4 production had stopped. RS4 production never stopped, it was always slated to run through the 2008 model year. After this came the rumor that the RS4 engine power was going to be increased to 450 HP. I always thought that was a conflation of the rumors about a 450 HP TT V8 for the RS5, but who knows. However, you can order a 2008 RS4 today, and if you look at the Audi site you'll see that it has a 420 HP engine. Even if they did produce a newer version with a 450 HP engine, it would require a retune of the ECU and probably a new US EPA certification, something I doubt they will want to do in the US market as the end of production is approaching. But, given the 500 HP rating of the Champion Audi Vitesse RS4, with stock internals, a modified ECU and modified exhaust, there is still some unlocked potential with this engine.

Audi might do it though- just for the European market. They did this with the RS6 Avant in 03' when the bumped the HP in the final year- but only for the EU and only for Avant's. Do you remember it, RI RS4? It had gunmetal 5 spoke wheels and something like I wanna say, 460HP?

The M3 is probably louder, because the Veyron is all induction woosh and very little exhaust or engine noise, certainly compared to a normal V8. I was most surprised and needless to say disappointed, because I was hoping for it to be stupidly loud when pushed.

why are so many people on this forum obsessed with the rs4? audi can give it 600 hp or do whatever the hell they want, it will still be an overpriced audi. i don't really see the point in constantly comparing the m3 to the rs4.

Even if Audi does show a new B8 RS4 sometime next year after the B8 A4/S4 debut in Frankfurt, it will not be built until MY2010 at the earliest. And I would bet probably not 'til MY2011 or MY2012.

Any info about updates to the current B7 RS4 is pure BS.

Hmmm obsessed with the RS4? Because I posted an article about one of the M3's main competitors? Maybe we should create another forum called M3OnlyQuestionsFaqsAndPictures.com and ban anyone who brings up any other brand or model no matter how relevant. I thought the whole point of the GENERAL M3 forum was so that we could post opinions, general observations, and other M3 related automotive news. So how is this related? Well I am glad you asked you see the RS4 is a direct competitor to the M3, and there have been a lot of questions concerning how the new M3 will stack up. It is, unfortunatly a LARGE number of posts seem to be from 335 and RS4 owners, about their cars. It becomes quite fatiguing to continue to hear people blather on about them.
I am pretty sure there are plenty of appropriate forums for such droning.

Fortunatly I have not been to these forums, but I would venture a guess that M3 people are not relentlessly driving the point about how it is a better car, a cheaper car, a more worthy car for the track, a faster car, and on and on, and on and on.

Whether or not Audi *may* do something is not a fact, it is speculation. Threads to speculate about other cars would be better served on general forums or forums specific to those brands/model. Notice that the title of the forum even mentions what specific M3 we are talking about. "E46 M3 with SC ownzjoo" threads in this forum would also be in the wrong place.
