Hello all.

Frequent lurker, rare poster... thought I'd pick the resident expert brains.

I recently had my tires balanced, and the shop said that one of my rear wheels is bent. I didn't see the damage, and I wouldn't know how to grade its severity, but I'm looking to repair or replace it. I have a 2011 M3 ZCP.

My options are: (1) have it repaired; (2) grovel at the local dealers for the best deal they can get me for a new one; (3) try to get a used replacement wheel (or set) from one of the various e9x forums online (see this post; (4) look for a refurbished one from a wheel refurbishing shop. I'm too attached to the ZCP wheels to replace the entire set with alternatives. Thoughts?

try and fix it first; if it's minor you're good. Don't go looking for a new wheel if it's not needed

depending on how minor it is, a reputable shop can fix it

Though if you have the money, I'd replace it

I believe it can cost $100+ to fix a wheel, so if you can buy new for about 3-500 (I have no idea what they go for), I'd personally do it.

the shop that balanced your tires should be able to tell you how bad the damage is (assuming they have the right equipment). unless its unsafe to drive, i'd try to get them fixed.

i have 359s too and 3 of the 4 are slightly bent, but only 1 was bad enough to give me thoughts of getting fixed.

I would replace it. ZCP wheels arent too pricey so i would just go ahead and replace the one bent one.

If it's not really badly bent, get it fixed. The pro shops will let you know if it's too badly crunched to safely fix, and they do a fine job of heating and persuading, heating and persuading until it's pretty much perfect as measured with a runout gauge.

You might want to leave the room while they're working, though. I very noticeably bent two front rims on our 3-liter M3, and while the guys were working, I was reminded of that old saying about the ballet. From 20 rows back, it's clearly art, but in the front row, you can hear the grunts and popping joints, and watch the sweat fly.

Do not heat and hammer the bends. Even though it will fix the bend, it will weaken the wheel and much more likely bend again. If you want to avoid buying a new rim, and want to repair the bend, get it cold-rolled. It is a little more expensive, but the correct way to do it. Depending on the wheel and how much a replacement costs, I would consider this option. If you can find a replacement wheel for a few hundred dollars, id go with that option.

If you didn't feel a vibration in the steering wheel or the car then you could leave it as is. I have not had good luck repairing bent wheels. Did it once back in the day and they just bent again... I would go to one of the OEM BMW parts venders found here in the sponsor classified to find the best price on replacement wheels. ZCP wheel are around $500 ea. The dealer will rip you off.
