Clearly. However, the rs5 is going to cost more and it doesn't come with free/prepaid/whatever maintenance. The car is fantastic, but it's just overpriced for what you get.

Anyways, heard anything from the 4.2 R8 camp as well?
I updated my original post with some links. There's only one R8 thread I've seen and it's pretty old. Maybe the R8 owners don't put enough miles on their cars to be as affected by carbon build-up?

Actually, it does. Audi has recently started offering maintenance packages that you can buy at time of purchase to cover your scheduled maintenance. You get a lot of standard features on the RS5 too. More standard features actually then what is offered on the M3. I'm not hating, but don't get sucked into BMW's marketing. That's all it is, marketing.

i was in the market for a RS4 when I was shopping around the M3. I'm glad I dodged that bullet.

Cons of RS4 when I was buying:

1. overall high price to value
2. carbon build-up of the 4.2 and cost of maintenace of issue
3. outdated electronics
4. simplistic AWD system (also a good thing I suppose)
5. sub-optimal handling (nose heavy, heavy)
6. outdated interior
7. overall Audi/VW build quality is inferior to BMW M3 as indicated by quality reporting and surveys
8. minimum need for AWD (mid-atlantic, non-daily driver)
9. limited options and choices in terms of color and packages

in the market = I was considering this car as an alternative against the M3. Until I stacked up the cons against the M3's cons, it's hands down M3 for me.

Pros:
rare/special factor to the car
exterior design
seats
more hp/torque
AWD when i do drive in snow
common tire size
cool looking brake calipers

Been looking...

I've been looking at youtube clips with M3 vs RS5. Seen 3 of them so far. here are the results.

1) was rally about the Cadillac, matching it against the RS5 and M3. Ultimately, the M3 remained a benchmark, then came the Audi, then teh Caddy came in third (transmissions is way behind the other brands). But he said it's a strong competitor otherwise.

2) another matched the RS5 and M3 evently, saying that it would come down to the skills of the driver

3) same for the third ... and they were driving HARD! They pointed out the strengths and drawbacks of each.

Cost wise, the Audi is more expensive. Taking nothing away from BMW, I've always said that the M3 is a "poor mans sportscar" (that title belongs to Chevy and Ford now). The M3 has history, and let's be fair. There are a LOT of good performing cars, but they change badges, rename badges, discontinue badges, etc. The M3 has stayed "M3". That has helped its iconic status. Don't believe me? Ask your fathers.

It comes down to personal choice though.
