E92 M3 Power Steering Scoop

As many of us who track our E92 M3's we notice that the power steering fluid overheats and makes a mess in the engine bay or even makes it to the outside of the fender/hood. We have been thinking of ways to help cool down the fluid and since the cooler is right behind the bumper support the air flow is partially blocked. We came up with a simple design to help direct flow to the P/S cooler. Attached a few pictures of our design.

Since we are from Chicago we have to wait till the tracks open up to test it. However we may be sending one to our friends that is another sponsor on here to try out.

If we see good results we will offer this to help keep the P/S fluid temps down. Also on our recent E92 M3 build we will be coming up with a nice power steering cooler kit using a setrab cooler. So we will have two options for people.

I thought the mess was from sloshing about rather than overheating.

My concern would be taking away some of the airflow to the rad but any extra cooling of the PS fluid would be a good thing.

Nicely done guys! Hopefully it performs as well on as track as you guys hoped.

Looking at the scoop it doesn't look like it eats up too much surface area of the radiator, so it looks to be a great balance. Well done!

That is a good point which is why we would like to test this but the radiator is also blocked by the bumper support just like the power steering cooler. So the air flow will also go to the radiator.

Do you guys have your own CNC Machine?!?!?!

The video and pictures are awesome! I want this just because it looks cool, haha.

It would be sweet to have one with the VS Motorsports logo that matches Melbourne Red

I'll take a granite one too! It will do wonders for the resale value of the car! It will also make it a little nose heavy, so I can pretend I am driving an Audi too!

We tested the unit and it did not meet our standards, we will go back to this product in the future and hope to come up with a better solution

Werd!

Let's discuss this. I had an idea to use the non-functional hood vent to direct air onto some part that will cool the p/s fluid. I envisioned a molded piece of plastic/rubber that clamps onto the bottom on the vent. Then uses an easily removable and heat resistance hose to funnel air onto the p/s cooler, pump, or in the general area of the radiator?

Would there be any significant aerodynamic consequences?

The hose needs to be easily removed. Resist heat from the headers. Then there needs to be a bracket to secure the hose so it lines up with the vent. Then there should be a gasket to ensure a good seal.

I'd make one myself if I had more time and I had some good data points on where I should direct the air to the maximize the cooling effect of the p/s fluid.
