So break this down for me. I have been in Europe for the last 4 years and I have tricare so this should not affect me but what is the skinny on it?

They basically did what they have done with Car insurance, everyone must have coverage so those who can afford to pay their bills either on their own of via insurance do not have to pay for those who do not or can not pay. The reason it cost so much is all the people us use medical services the most and do not pay.

The theory is this, if everyone is paying in then it cost everyone less since the risk is lower per person.

The issue is now is if you have insurance nothing changes, if you do not then you are required to have it, whether you want it or not. There is a small group of people who have chosen not to have coverage and do not care to have it, and they are the most vocal along with the group who does not what their tax dollars paying for those for what the reason can not afford insurance i.e the bums and the entitle groups in the US.

I personally have insurance and hardly ever use it since I and my family are healthy, so nothing changes for me, I just hope my insurance cost go down now since ever should be covered and my premiums will no longer fund those who choose not to pay their doctor bills.

Here in Massachusetts under our universal state healthcare, if you can't afford insurance then you love the law.
If you do have insurance, then you pay much more than the rest of the country for your premiums.

Basically, if poor: awesome
Not poor: more expensive, worse service


I suspect this is what the rest of the country will see.

I would say that something like driving is a privilege and not a right, but when it comes to your health, I completely disagree. Everyone should have some form of health car available. Now, that doesn't mean I'm ok with freeloaders or the way they are going about this plan. Since you believe it is a privilege, what would you do in these hypothetical situations:

1. You currently have health care, but develop a condition that your provider decides they do not want to cover due to the cost, so they drop you.

2. You lose your job and are searching for work. You are now no longer covered and options like COBRA are too expensive as you are not receiving an income. While being without coverage during you job search, you become severely injured or sick.

In either of these hypothetical situations, should you just be left to die because health care is not a right? Note that I am not trying to pick a fight, but am curious on your thoughts.

Not having healthcare comes at a cost both financially and physically. Either way the uninsured is penalized.

I see it this way...if this healthcare law was repealed, then those who can afford health insurance, but choose not to have it and then end up getting sick should just be left to die and suffer the consequences they put themselves in.

However, if we as a country aren't going to do that then we should ensure that everyone has healthcare and pays into the system so situations like that don't happen.

It's either one or the other. The last thing I want to hear is some radical screaming how unconstitutional this is and that they shouldn't have to pay for health insurance if they don't want it, but then gets sick and expects help when everyone knows they won't be able to afford the care? Please.

Because I'm against ANYTHING that gives the government even more control than they already have. "Oh it's just healthcare, I'll chip in so others can have it" leads to "Oh it's just a cell phone, I'll help pay for that" and I'm entitled to internet access. Thankfully that last one was a one time deal. You say it's petty, I say there's too much entitlement as it is.

I really do not understand why the wealthy people in this country are so upset about all the so called "advantages" being given to the people who are poor or who are less successful. If being poor is so good, then the wealthy can simply give away their money and join the ranks of the poor.

The wealthy are not being required to do anything they do not already do unless they are insane. Any person who is well off will already have health insurance. Will some of the federal budget be spent to help the poor with their health care? Yes. Will the wealthy be required to pay more in taxes? Yes.

Thank heavens that we are all well off enough to be in the position to complain about the poor and the "outrageous" taxes that we pay. It is such a great position to be in.
