Holy crap ... just finished 12 pages of reading. Glad I read to the end, as my car is also late 2011 build, and might not require FSC.

I'm in the process of downloading the files now. Thanks Kmarei for hosting them. However, I don't completely understand the proces of creating the folders and formatting the drive to FAT32.

Can somone explain this is some detail?

Most USB drives are fat32 so I would not worry about that. But you can always right click and check the properties to make sure. After down loading the iso's open them, then drag the config file and the pkgb folder to your USB... That's it.

Given the assumption that we have one upgrade without FSC, has anyone inquired if we can upgrade to the 2013 maps (which are probably not out yet).

In any case, one member was right: BMW will no longer make these files available for purchase on CD's. They closed a loophole and eventually everyone will have to come to them for updates (unless you want to drive in the 2012 world ).

All be careful with the new car updates. Mine was updated to the latest code this past week and the nav update fails. The error was similar to the following:
The navigation data in the car is incomplete or has been manipulated. Please see your service center for more information.

So either wait to update your car until the nav is done or we'll have to find the cause of the issue.

Any ideas here? I tried the USB method which doesn't work at all and the DVD which resulted in the error. I'll capture the error better next time after the ECU resets because it won't show again at the moment.

Im 99.9% positive you will require an FSC code. I have a 12.2012 build and mine did.

From the sounds of it, it would appear that perhaps you didnt download one of the 3 disks correctly. One of the three downloads might have had one small file missing which caused the issues your seeing now. Did you use a download manager?

The USB method worked fine for me. What files did you put on your USB drive? What port did you try the usb drive on?

I received DVD's from another member. Although USB was used to update his car and then copied the USB's to DVD's to send to me. Perhaps something was lost in translation.

I used the USB port in the center console with an extender to the sandisk micromate as spelled out in a previous post.

Each DVD stick has one file and a folder with additional files and subfolders off the root:
config.nfm
pkgdb
(pdf attachment shows basic file list)

Interesting... I have no clue what that "I" means. I dont remember seeing that on my old map info either. Well, you can always try to update and see if it asks you. If it does, hit that guy Serg up for a quick FSC code. He did mine very quick once payment was sent.

Yeah, as far as I have found it is 2012s that may have the one time free FSC update... or late 2011 build e90's that would have been designated 2012 if the model line hadn't otherwise ceased (my '11 e90 m3 arrived at my dealer on the truck with another guys '12 e92 m3).

Technic may be right, it may be for everybody who as the 2011i maps who get a free update to 2012.

I agree with what was said by ILSMKU - when downloading files this large there is always a possibility that one file gets corrupted. I recommend doing an m5 checksum on the files and making sure they match up to what was seen on the boards prior to installing it in your car.

Of course there is always a chance BMW has been following this thread and did something to the latest update to make this process impossible as a DIY. BMWNA has been known to read the boards... but I'm no conspiracy theorist.

I've seen this happen 3-4 times in the 8 years I've been on BMW boards. I've even seen them use part of a video of a meet in their commercials. Lol
