Would you go from m3 to sti

My wife and I recently had our first child and the two door thing is a little inconvenient. She has a x5 and it seems like all we do is drive it. I miss driving the M3 sometimes. I looked at a sti hatch and it has me thinking. Anyone ever consider one of these or got one after owning an m3? If so any regrets? They are great cars, but it's hard to get rid of the m3. Thanks.

I would buy one in ADDITION to the M3. If you really need 4 doors though you could consider an E90 to have the best of both worlds.

What about M3 sedan? The STi hatchbacks are pretty good looking cars.

The m3 sedans are hard to come by. My car is loaded and most of the sedans I find are always missing something I want. Plus I bought my car out of the lease for a great price and don't want to spend 50 plus for two more doors.

If replacing the M3 definitely do the E90. It is much more 'practical' than many people give it credit, especially with the fold down rear seats. I've been able to get a set of golf clubs, two suitcases, two computer bags, misc other bags and two 75lb dogs in it comfortably.

Best of ALL worlds in my opinion with giving up VERY little if anything to the coupe.

I had to look around for a while but managed to find an incredibly well equipped one (only missing sunroof and rear shades I believe) and couldn't be happier! Also be willing to "travel" to either ship or drive a car back. Opens up a TON of potential cars!

its really not that hard to get a baby seat in and out of the e92 m3, can literally put a child in the seat and strap him/her down with 5 minutes,

I would go with the Evo. It is a lot more fun to drive if you are into performance. The Evo rotates like a top with telepathic steering and a rear end that wants to kick out and play when you have the traction control off.

But the STI is more comfortable if you do drive it on a daily basis. Performance just won't match unless you modify the car.

It really depends on what you are looking for in a car. If you must have 4 doors, then you should get a 4 door car. I will say the M3 is a lot more comfortable than either STI or Evo though.

No, and I still have an '09 STi. I love it, but it is relegated to winter driving and rarely sees daylight anymore.

As much as I still love the Subie, I would not go from M3 to STi.

STi too common. M3 is a dynasty. Have u ever seen an ugly factory M3?

It may not be hard but do it often enough and I would bet it would get old. I don't have any kids and I can already see it being a pain on a daily basis.

I think the STi hatchback is super cool! I was contemplating one for a long time, then again, I go back and forth all over, went from CLS55 to 350Z back to 911 and MINI and so on lol... I just love all cars from all makes, JDM + DTM

STI's are nice and wouldn't mind owning one as a second car but as others have stated just go the E90 rought unless you are just looking for a completely different car. Subaru's are great cars, I still have my 2000 Outback that I daily drive and she just hit 200k miles and still running strong.

sti is a great car,just sold mine to move to a different platform. way more refined compared the evo(4g63)
if you throw a cobb ap,tbe and intake youll break 300whp with ease.
the 08+ is a great car. granted mine was upgraded(turbo,injectors,tmic ect) i would walk a fbo n54 from a dig and hang at a roll.

That would be a tough move, I'd hang onto your M3 if you can. Your wife is probably happy driving the SUV, daddy's gotta be happy too. Although, with a kid in tow, the e90 is definitely more convenient.

If I were in your shoes and only needed one car for the family, I'd look into the new Audi RS4 Avant. All wheel drive for your snowy winters and performance for dad. Anyway, sorry I'm just thinking off the top of my head.

I went 07 limited with 3071 turbo and all supporting mods and wouldn't go back. It was a fun car and at first I regretted selling for the m. Performance was on par with my e90 but in the e90 I enjoy driving more. Every errand turns into a drive which was not the case in the sti. A stock sti will be disappointing.

If you like modding yourself then maybe. if you like researching parts etc. the sti is fun. Fewer options for the m.

Go e90.. I have a 2 yr old (he also prefers the m..).

I bought my E90M3 because my wife would not ride in my turbo E36M3 anymore, which meant we had to take her car, which was an 08 X5 Sport 4.8i at the time and while it was very good for a truck, it was not interesting for me. I kept the turbo E36M3, which I enjoy more than the E90M3 since it I can feel the road and it has serious power (500+ rwhp and 500+ lbs rwtq).

Most cars will be a step down after the E92M3. I don't see you finding anything stock with 4 doors that is comparable without spending that roughly $50k that you do not want to spend. Cadillac CTS-V, Mercedes C63, BME E90M3, Audi S4 or RS4 are what come to mind.

The little AWD cars like the Mitsu and Subi are fun, but not at the same level. For a daily driver, I'd rather have the 2.5L of the Subi than the 2.0L of the Mitsu given the weight, but the Mitsu is the better driver's car in stock form. They are great off the line if worked hard, but can't pull for as long as the M3. If all you do is squirt around town, they may be OK, but there is a reason they do about 103 in the quarter and the M3 does about 113. Hotrodded ones can go pretty well.

What about trading the X5 for an X5M?
