Interesting.. though those seem like relatively trivial advantages considering the exponential increase in stress as rpm's increase.

Tach can not change higher up there. It's not variable at the top. Even the dynamic redline can not go below 4500RPM wihout creating a whitespace at 8K

I have set my redline at 3000 rpm until the car is completely warm, thinking about adding red so it stays uniformly red from 3K to 8300 where the static red is.

Here is a video I took earlier today at the lowest stock level before the white begins to show:

When the tach indicates 8,250, is the car really revving at 8,250? Or is it really at 8,400?

Just FYI, you guys can check the RPM on the cluster in digital format. I'll try to post the steps later today if I have some free time.

The only good ones to use are menu 2 (cluster test)

and 7.1 I believe is coolant temp in C, 7.2 RPM, and 7.3 kph

(this is off the top of my head, it's the same as my E46 was back in 2003), except instead of just going to function 19 to unlock, they made it a calculation of the vin #.

Yes, there are higher limits in the code above the redline actually set. One is on the injection side of the processor and another on the ignition side of the processor - max rpm for injection / max rpm for ignition.

There is also a byte that refers to rpm buffer. All of this combined lets you hit 8,450 ish with a stock car (especially with DCT).
