Yeah, use anything but BMW OEM touch up paint. It's too dark(SSII, i don't know about other colors). I gotta try something different for sure. What a waste of money.

damnit, I purchased OEM touchup paint I wanted to use on my chips on my hood and door. My experience is that most OEM touchup is notoriously bad in color matching and quality when applied.

I need to stop looking at the front of my car. Every day I find a new little paint chip and I get so sad. I am going to purchase some of that Dr. Color Chip once the weather gets warmer. 99% of people will never notice... But I will.....

Man, i wish someone had posted how bad the OEMs were. Now i have a new dilemma. Do i try taking the shitty oem paint off or just leave it alone? Hm...

I thought about going with a clear bra. My last dark car ('08 Lexus IS 350 Black) ended up with chips in all the places the clear bra wouldn't cover. I used some good touch-up paint and you could not tell unless you were looking right at the mark and within 2 feet. Still... damn does it make me angry to see chips... But... these cars are meant to be driven, and as soon as I start her up, I completely forget about any little chip.

Isn't that Murphy's law? I hear you. Every time I wash my car, I see a new chip here and there. Wish I had gone with the clear bra. You're damn right these things are meant to be driven... hard!!!

Big rock chip on new car...dammit

Thank god for you guys and this thread...I just took delivery of my new M3 not more than two days ago and already noticed a large rock(s) chip on the front pillar going up to the roof (A-pillar?). First chip on the car and it's a big'n...I didn't even hear a rock hit the paint. And, I was just about to head to the dealer on Monday to buy a tube of oem touch-up. Glad I didn't and checked with M3post.com :-)

Just ordered a tube of SpaceGrey from drcolorchip.com ...if this works like you've all claimed, I'm buying you all beers if we ever meet.

cheers,
Brian

Drcolorchip is the way to go. Freakin' OEM touch up paint, can't even match their own paint. What gives? Anyway, the color match is unreal. Yeah, thank goodness for this thread.

Brian, sorry to hear about the chip on your TWO day old new M3. If I can do it all over again, I'm definitely opting for the clear bra protection. But little rock chips aren't going to deter me from driving the hell out of this car.

Great timing on this thread as I wanted to fix some tiny chips before detailing the car. Thank you for the recommendation on drcolorchip.com. Just ordered my kit!

I have some chips on my hood that I want to fix. A big one on my power bubble that drives me crazy every time I look at it. Hopefully this Dr. ColorChip stuff does the trick.

Dr. Colorchip can paint chips the color you want it, but to fill it up, it takes finesse since the solvent can delete your work rather quickly especially with the deeper chips.

Interesting. I have a rather big deeper chip on my power bubble. It really stands out cause of the white color of the undercoat next to my dark blue finish. Is there a trick to filling the deeper chips? The video makes it look so easy... Brush on, wipe with finger, wait, solvent, done.

what a lot of people fail to realize that paint can change from one production date to another. Just because the ingredients are there to mix the paint, the shade can change.
I am in a dilemma too. I have two spots that I need to touch-up badly. I am still weighing my options.

It really works on the smaller tiny blemishes, but that video is very miss leading, almost like the pefect situation for the product. Think of it as car makeup.

When you recieve your kit and you start playing with it, you see what I mean. Deeper chips require you to build it up, that is difficult to do when part of the process is the solvent, so it takes quite a bit of work to do it right. It's really worth it to give it a shot, I think my kit was under $50.
