This picture shows a Brazilian made model (N serial number and black barrel bushing), but I got the US made one (NM serial number and chrome barrel bushing), but you get the idea. Huge plus for me is an ambi safety, since im left-handed.

Is this a new gun? When was the last time it was cleaned and lubed?
Extractor, weak magazine spring, dirty gun, dirty mag or a deformed magazine wall will cause that.

Make sure the gun is unloaded and take pictures of where they were getting stuck. If you have snap caps (plastic cartridges with a spring inside) you can simulate the failure and see if it does the same thing while you are racking the slide.
Used. I just cleaned and lubed it, but it came from an armory with a gunsmith, so I'm sure they cleaned it, too. I went to take a picture, but it's tough to actually see. It's getting hung at about a 10 degree angle, barely slanted--tip up. It only does it with a couple bullets, fully loaded it's fine.

Sounds like a magazine issue. Perhaps the follower angle changes? Try different magazine, but open and clean one this one just in case.

Tried the other mag, didn't hang up, but I felt it almost catch. I ordered a new extended mag, so maybe it ill be better.

Also, any particular gun cleaning tips or websites with a detailed technique?

Do's and don'ts?

Correction, it 'almost' hangs up when the mag is full, too. Both magazines.

YouTube has tons of cleaning instructions for any type of gun you can imagine.

DO: always make sure the gun is unloaded. only use tools intended for gun cleaning.
DON'T: buy any cleaning supplies or lube without doing research. half of the crap on the market will mess up the finish on your gun. I only use Hoppe's.

Check this out:
http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/...-lots-ftf.html

Looks like everyone is pointing to mag issues.

Quote:
I had a problem with my SA XD40 SC when I first got it, worked great with the small mag., problem was with the extended mag. Called SA, they sent me a free label to send it back and they sent me a new mag., no more problem. SA is really great to deal with, their CS is wonderful. He should contact them.
Quote:
Feeding problems are usually tracable to the magazine. Most feed ramps are steep and depend more on the force of the slide to feed the round than the angle of the ramp. Two things I would try before sending it back, different mag and polishing the ramp.
Quote:
Sounds like a magazine issue. SA will make it right. He needs to call them ASAP. I have a XD40sc and have about 800 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever. The good news is mag issues are easily corrected!!!
Quote:
If it's a used pistol, chances are it hasn't been maintained properly and the mags may be gunked up. I'd break them down, surgically clean them, and try it again. If it failed again, off it goes. Many shooters don't realize how much powder and gunk gets into mags and blame them for the failure to work properly.
Quote:
An XD that has failures is not normal. Not acceptable. If it has more than one magazine, see if it's magazine related. Contact Springfield.

I think it may be because I'm being too 'weak wristed'

Did it again just racking the slide and letting it go quickly, and it did it fine.

Yeah man pull the slide back with force (announce your presence with authority) and let it slam home. I prefer the overhand racking method (palm on the top of the slide; rip it back and let it fly). Do not, under any circumstances, "ride" the slide forward when you are trying to chamber ammunition.

You can ride it forward when the gun is empty and you are clearing the weapon.

More than 50% fit and finished in the US. Still most likely a Brazilian imbel forging.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I have a few NM ones, and they were absolutely fine. And of course SA Inc has warranty on both!

You should see how my girlfriend racks the slide. She is this delicate flower type,
so she tries to cock it with 2 fingers, like she is afraid that it will crumble in her hands if she squeezed it any harder. Watching her press action release button on a shotgun was even more hilarious. But damn, this girl loooves guns! Is there such a think as a hippy redneck? lol

Not even shipped yet. I just paid for it this afternoon and my FFL dealer was closed today, so they wont fax/email him their license info untill tomorrow.

Found a full time car/part time firearms dealer guy on Gunbroker who was selling brand new Springfield Loaded "package" with 2 magazines, gun holster, 2 magazine holster and a bore brush for super cheap. Called him up to see if he wants to sell me directly and save on seller fees. Ended up shooting shit for a while, so he sold it to me for even cheaper than I expected to pay!

I do the same, except I haven't been pulling back hard enough. Not because I can't, just being careful. From now on I won't, though.

Oh okay my bad, I misread your post. Nonetheless, sounds like you got a great deal on a great 1911.

And your girlfriend sounds like the marrying type. Well done.

Thank you sir. If I get time tomorrow evening, I'll throw up some quick pics and post any initial impressions.

I understand. But yeah, take the slide all the way back until you physically cannot take it back any farther.

Hey, the fact of the matter is that you are still learning. It's great that you're asking questions because as this thread has proven, we have quite a friendly and knowledgeable firearms enthusiast community here on the forum.

BTW, regarding that target you posted, nice shooting at that distance, especially considering that you are just getting started!

I can assure you that the more you practice, the tighter those groupings will become. If you keep practicing diligently, I don't think you'll have any trouble shooting sub-8' groups at 25 yards out of your XD . . . which would be more than serviceable out of a compact polymer combat pistol.

A high-quality 1911 paired with a highly capable shooter can shoot 2" groups or better at 25 yards.

I hear ya. Reading all these new purchase posts had me on the Wilson Combat website last night.

Just stick with what you have and keep shooting. Pick something else up next year. Rinse & repeat.

Then wait until you feel it's prudent to buy a large safe..... No fun. Still looking for a used one because i'd rather buy a sweet new weapon than a place to store them.

Have to start saving for TFO sights, and a ported barrel. I want to see what this thing will do accuracy wise with the recoil tamed down a bit. Getting the sights first, since they're the most important, no telling when I'll spring for the barrel.
