Dimming sideviews

Is this a new option on my 2011.5 or does everyone have it,definitely a good thing to have.

They're part of a package, or at least they were back in '08 (mine has them). And they're stinking expensive too: the glass alone is a lot more expensive than the whole housing (with the power folding feature) .

Is there a way to turn OFF the auto dimmer?? Especially on the rearview... with my dark tint I can't see sh!t at nighttime.

I hate that you can't turn it off (I can't figure out how to on my 08 anyway), makes it impossible for me to tell if it's a douchebag or a cop riding my ass at night.

And the side views go way too dark as well for my taste.

There was a thread about putting a piece of tape or something semi-transparent over the sensor on the rear view mirror. There is a light sensor in the mirror and by blocking light to it, it will reduce the dimming function (i.e., make it easier to see). I also agree that it gets way too dark and I wish there was a way to toggle it off easily (I would take one of the old-school flip mirrors in an instant )
