I think everyone is aware of this, although the above comparison of the "off-the-shelf" PSS is being made with the "off-the-shelf" PS2. Although I'm sure the PSS has better outright performance than the BMW PS2, there is no hard data or a credible review to suggest how much better an "off-the-shelf" PSS is over the BMW PS2. It's a shame that BMW don't have a homologated version of the PSS for the M3.

Most people are running 255/35/19 and 275/35/19.

If you are going wih 18's, this would convert to 255/40/18 and 275/40/18

Better sizes on 18's would be 265/35 and 285/35.

would that be the cause of bad handling? cuz it definitely doesn't feel right

What are the 3 categories where it isn't improved?

The PS2 is a 10+ year old tire design. All the competitors have better tires than the PS2, that's why Michelin had to step it up to beat them.

Past two months, 70 to 80's degrees. I didn't know PS2 come in runflats?! My PS2 were original equipment and are not runflats. In any regards, performance wise, PSS skips and wiggles under spirited high speed turns where the PS2s were very planted in the same corners and roads the I travel on for the three years I've owned my car.

Could be from more tread... and thus more squirm... on a new PSS versus an worn PS2. I say this because I find the PSS to much more planted and confidence inspiring than the PS2 (or any other tire I have had other than the RE-11).

Funny, but I had a similar experience (though not directly comparable).

I was very happy with the stock PS2s that came with the car. 18 months down the road the PS2s were worn and I had to get new tyres.

I was convinced by my local tyre dealer to switch to the Conti SC. From what I have read in this forum, the Contis are also extremely good tyres and a close competitor to the PS2s. I had no reason to suspect otherwise.

Putting the Contis on and driving off the dealer something didn't feel right. I went to the highway at over 50mph, and then it was one of the worst experiences I ever had when trying new tyres. I could not believe how lousy the tail felt, and how slopy & inaccurate the overall handling was (esp. the back). I would turn the wheel and it felt like the back followed after half a second or so. HORIBLE. I started a thread on this forum asking for help, I went to Conti Greece asking to check what was going on, thorough tests on suspension, alignment (in 2 different shops, incl. the dealership), wheels etc etc.

Of course I knew the tyres had to run in for at least 100 miles, so at the begining I took some comfort that handling would imrove. On the other hand I still wasn't convinced, as I remembered that the OEM PS2s which also needed run in at the beginnig did not feel as sloppy as this.

To cut the long story short: The Contis improved in performance VERY slowly over time, but even today after 15k miles (or so) I am not as happy as I was with the PS2s day 1. So if you ask me what went wrong, I still don't know. Maybe the tyres were somewhow defective out of the box, maybe they were not perfectly matched to the M3, maybe they just didn't feel right or felt "different" for my taste. Public opinion remains that the Contis are an excellent tyre for the M3, yet I would never get Contis on my M3 again nomatter what.

My next tyre will be the PSS. It is an excellent sucessor of the PS2 from what I read, so I am getting those after the summer.

I hope I won't end up in another nasty surprise....

I wish I new if it was going to be this year or next year. My quess today is Q1 next year. I ping my contact that actually speaks to Michelin direct. I will update this thread if I get anything concrete back. I have been waiting for the 285/30/19 for over year. It will happen eventually.

I'd like to know about a 245/30/20 or 255/30/20. They already have a 285/30/20 which would make a perfect combination for 20" wheels. 305/25/20 would be nice too.

if so, what size? any rubbing?

I currently have a 15/10mm set on, and have a 255/275 on order, but I'm worried about the rears rubbing slightly.

I would upsize to 255/35 and 275/35 with ZCP's. Larger contact patch, more agressive look and a hair more rash resistance.
