Toyota FT86 (Scion FRS) is...

Pretty fast for a 200HP car around Streets of Willow. Faster than an EVO X and Ford GT???? That I don't get at all. See quote below.

Quote I saw on the FT86club website:
"91.15 lap time 1:31.15

and he was f-cking around... faster than an evo x pretty good....

BMW M5 1:30.40
Porsche 911 Turbo 1:30.69
Ford Mustang V6 1:30.90
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X SE 1:31.40
Ford GT 1:31.57

if all cars were driven by different drivers in different conditions, then it's not really comparable. The numbers is just garbage. I'll be slower in a F430 Scuderia than Joey Hand in a stock E46 M3....just saying, drivers make a huge difference that that site doesn't say anything about who' driving.

The only thing worth comparing is autosport's times at the ring as the driver is consistently the same guy.

Randy Pobst was driving the Scion.
It is a good car, but come on, it can't beat EVO X or M5 or 911 Turbo.

Streets of Willow gives an advantage to cars with better handling and less power. Take this car to Big Willow and no way will it hang with any of those cars on the list.

That being said, to get a car with nice handling and decent power (for its class) for around 25K new is pretty cool...

Just for reference a stock S2000 with a good driver can do around 1.28 on street tires around SOW. This is a cool little car. You will probably see a lot of these at the local tracks in the near future.

How can one take any of those times seriously with the Mustang V6 time included?

So how long before all the teenagers are ripping off their Scion badges for Toyota badges?

Here is a track battle of the BRZ/GT86 vs the Miata at Twin Ring Motegi.

ZK,
On the video that you posted, I noticed that the Scion is quite tail happy compared to the BRZ. Tsuchiya (FRS of slide coming out of a corner. The BRZ on the other hand, looks more composed. Don't get me wrong, Tsuchiya is a good driver. He took part in the Japanese Touring Car Championship (JTCC) and he was also a former Le Mans driver. Naoki is a good driver as well. He won several Super GT races. I'm just comparing the cars, not the drivers.

With that said, is the BRZ a better handling car?? In a race esp in the track, you don't want a car that's tail happy. You want one that grips. In the video, I noticed that the BRZ had more grip than the FRS.

I'm picking one up as a DD/weekend track toy. Obviously the m3, GTR, etc. will put up better times at Streets but 1:31 isnt bad considering it's running stock tires off the JDM Prius.

Going back to the link: http://www.fastestlaps.com/laptimes/4d90aa2aa585d.html

I just found out that the lap times for the Ford GT on Streets of Willow was on the opposite direction. That answers my question on the Ford GT's time. However, how is the FRS still faster than the Ford Mustang v6? I'm guessing the FRS is a more balanced car perhaps?

This is where we all can see that being a good driver can be one of the best mods you can do.

I believe Tsuchiya was in the lead so he was having some fun toying with the guys behind him. When he is serious, he won't slide as much. It has nothing to do with car set up. An actual time attack lap with the same driver in each car would show more in terms of relative performance.

You'll see this in many of these Japanese videos. Sometimes the lead guy will slow down and wait for the others to catch up, to give them a fighting chance at winning.

Since performance numbers for the BRZ and FRS are practically the same, which do you guys prefer when it comes to looks?? BRZ or FRS?

The BRZ/FRS is aimed at people shopping for a small roadster car like the Miata, RX8 or even an S2000. Not really in the same category as the Mustang/370Z/Genesis coupe. It's something small, fun and nimble to toss around corners and have a good time. Not so much to set lap records and dominate on track or drag race.

From all the reviews and praise, it seems to be doing well in hitting its target!

Neat little car....I've been following along for the last year reading about it...it really does have potential. I read an article on "Inside Line" that the BRZ may come out with a turbo version while the FR-S may release a supercharged version....interesting....

BRZ for sure. Has more standard equipment, like navi.

Toyota f*cked up selling it under the Scrion badge in the US.

The BRZ also has a higher sticker price than the Scion which is totally stripped out...

But I'll take the HID, leather and Navi-equipped BRZ over a stripped out FRS any day. It's too bad Toyota doesn't offer the nicer options as available add-ons for the FRS.
