She hasn't worked in 2 months because we just had a new baby and she probably won't go back to full time work for another year or two. All our money goes into two accounts. One savings and one checking (not including the 401k and 529 plans) Oh well, she means well... I do love the watch. Matches the interior of my car.

You're right, I probably couldn't have bought all that stuff with what she paid for the watch. I think retail for the watch if over $7000 and she got it on sale at Reed's Jeweler's for $4800 total.

BTW, how smoothly does the second hand go around on your watch?
Not as smooth as my Breitlings, but it doesn't bother me. It's COSC certified.
That's almost exactly what I payed for mine too. Nice work!

It's a myth that's passed around by Breitling owners and Breitling forums.

fact is, most Breitlings are using an ETA movement that is the same as in most watches. So it is technically impossible for it to be different then the same movement in a different watch.
Wow, talk about showing some personal bias here. I was simply stating that it is still certified and keeps great time, regardless of the smoothness.

I have no idea what this myth is you talk about but it's quite obvious you have some deep-seeded issue with this topic and fly off the handle without understanding what I was saying.

Never mind, I deleted my posts as they were being misconceived as biased and not what their intended purposes were.

Sorry if I offended you.

I'll leave the explanations for watch forums.

My breitling's chrono-second hand is very clunky. The way it was explained to me is that the maximum bph is 28,000 but it varies...(if that makes any sense).

The way you see smoothness of ticking actually varies on more things that just the ticks, the size and shape of the second hand also impact how it visually appears. I can certainly see a difference when looking and ugly co-axial ticking.

do you have a constant second hand as well? is it clunky too? (though harder to tell due to size)

It's a nice watch, and they are popular. Wear it for a year, then use it to trade or sell it on a watch forum. Might pay for most of the Panerai.

I've been wearing it. I probably will never trade it in. I think it'll end up around my son's wrist one of these days. Yeah, even though I thought it was pricey and it ruined my budget to go buy some other things, I am liking the watch.

My brother almost shit a brick when he found out how much it was. As he put it, "Jesus Christ, I can buy a used Miata for that much..."

I don't know much about watches and what to expect. For an MSRP of over $7000, I think my watch's second hand is also clunky. Is it even possible to get a second hand on an automatic watch to go around smoothly?

Sold my PAM 320. My BMW dealer's ceo sold me one of his watches.

ROO Rubberclad F series. I'm happy. This is my third AP RO.

Very crappy iPhone pic. Sorry.

depends what you mean by chunky....

on that watch, there should be about 7-7.5 very small movements every second. You can see them take place. The bigger the second hand is the more noticeable it will be.

Are you referring to the big second hand that's only active when the Chronometer is activate? If so, this is the hand that it will be most noticeable on.

If you want smoother, you need to research other watches that have a higher BPH or VPH (Beats or Vibrations the same thing)

The only example I can think of off the top of my head is the Zenith El Primero movment which has made it's want into many other watch brands along with it's own. It will move the second hand once every 10th of a second and give the appearance of going smoother. But you can still see the slight hesitations as it goes around, just not as big or "chunk" perhaps.

I'll try and upload a video of it activated on mine.

Crazy watches. Do you own all of them still or do you like to turn them over and on to the next lucky owners and keeping only one at a time?

Have any other interesting watches?

the first is a Tag Monaco, it contains an ETA 2892 movment with a Dubois Depraz chrono pack attached to it. It beats at 28,000. It is more noticeably "chunky" seen close up, but I find overall it's fairly smooth when viewed normally.

the second watch is a Zenith El Primero which is an in house movement that beats at 36,000. You can still see the jumps, but it is much more fluid in it's movement, especially when viewed normally and not under a macro lens.

*for some reason I can't embed stuff, but here's the link*

28,000 vs 36,000

Thanks for uploading the video. The movement on that Zenith is very smooth. The Tag Monaco actually looks smoother than the movement on my watch. No wonder it is so heavily discounted from the MSRP. I'll have to upload the video and see if you guys think that the movement is "normal" for my watch or something wrong with it. I'll definitely look at VPM next time I purchase a watch.
