I'd have to drive the 1M, but i would def consider it... i love my M3, but have always wanted a "rare" car.

The 1M is indeed fun but feeling more for a GT as you have mentioned.

May just go this route.

Funny point of view.
Well, as you are asking ME to trade my M3 for YOUR 1M (theoretically), it WOULD matter. My second car is an S2000-it has even less rear seat leg room than your 1M.

There is an element of fugly, but also for my purposes its missing a couple or rear doors and a thumping V8

Do you guys get the feeling that there are some hardcore 1M fanboys on bimmerpost, especially when an m3 pops into a 1M related topic, and they get their knickers into a right twist when comparisons are made between the 2. Some get really defensive - I read and contribute to the 1M forum regularly. The 1M is a great car and so is the M3. Just a rant.

Reminds me of this - Don't mind when your driving it, but when it's over....And yes, V8 all the way.

If I was downsizing but, wanted to keep an M-spirited car, yes. I would get the 1M. It's a bulldog. The interior is bananas, too.

+1.

Had someone local offer to let me drive his, I'll definitely take it. I saw an orange one the other day and absolutely loved the way it looks, the form factor. I'm sure I'd love the weight reduction too...

I would rather have a 1M. I was buying used in the $45k range so the 1M would not have been an option even if it had been available at the time. I like turbos for their torque and moddability. I don't spend very much of my driving time on a racetrack. I like my E90M3, but am not in love with it. I enjoy my turbo E36M3 more (it has over 500 rwhp and 500 lbs rwtq and sits on coilovers), but it is not as modern or comfortable and those things are important to me for a daily driver since I am no longer in my 20s or 30s.

the 1M is an amazing car on the track. captures the essence of the E30 and E36 M3, which the M3 has irrevocably lost. but with much more power than those two.

if i wanted a modern E30 M3, i would pick the 1M over any other BMW offering without hesitation. but i needed the best GT/high performance vs practicality compromise, and for that no other car from any marque is better than the E90 M3.
