Loading dog food in the back of my then stock E90 sedan with the m-body kit. I still had the x-Drive on the side and stock exhausts. As I'm putting the cart back in the staging area, a guy asks me if that is the new M5....

I said no, it's not an M or a 5, but the AWD 3 sedan. He then asks if the M5 comes in AWD...

He responds with "Oh that would make ridiculous power!!! But too bad those engines don't exist other than on Porsches." My buddy and I laugh our asses off and leave. My buddy had a full bolt-on STI and I had my previous Procede-tuned 335i coupe and we were so tempted to smoke his A4 just to shut him up.

Should have asked him what he drove. Then continued on to tell him that he should have gotten a Prius because it has 4 wheels instead of 2 and he wouldn't have to pedal it.

Always amazes me that someone tells someone else what they should have gotten as if they are a complete idiot. Well I should have gotten an Aston Martin V12 Vantage but....

After I got my M3 wrapped Fire Orange I had a guy pull up next to me and ask me if it was the new M3 GTI. I said no my car is a standard M3 with a vinyl wrap, and he's probably referring to the GTS not GTI. To which he replied "no, I mean the M3 GTI, with the wing, haven't you seen it?" I facepalmed big time.

EDIT: Ok, maybe this counts... My supervisor who's a muscle car guy always has these little sly underhanded ignorant insults/questions. He asked me the other day, "What does your car have, a supercharged V6?" ...I'm thinking, c'mon man, what kind of car guy doesn't know at least enough about BMWs to think this?

It would actually take me a minute to think of a car that comes with a factory supercharged V6, let alone off the top of my head "08 BMW M3, yeah that's gotta be a SC'd V6 right?"

Had this kid with a S4 in my condo. I made the mistake of telling him "nice car" one day. After that he kept saying how fast his car was everytime we see each other at the lobby. Anyways, I was finally tired of his blah, blah, blahs and said to him one day...

Me: "How can an A4 be that fast? I don't remember my grandfather's A4 being that fast. You must have put on a lot of mods!"

I swear his eyes must have turned red.

Him: "This is not an A4. Its a S4. They are different"

Me: "Really? What's the difference? It looks exactly the same as my grandfather's"

Him: "How are they the same??? I got special brushed aluminum mirrors, chrome grilles, bigger wheels, and more hp with V6 turbo engine"

Me: "well, it sure looks the same. I remember my grandfather said his also has a turbo. You sure they are not the same?"

Him: "NO! They are not the same for crying out loud!"

Me: "I am just messing with ya. Btw, your car has a V6 supercharged engine"

After that, he never spoke to me again.

I love how people try to tell what engine YOUR car has.
Really? Oh yeah I didn't know what engine or it had when I bought it. People are so incredibly stupid.

i haven't had any real negative or stupid comments yet. Most people just comment on how gorgeous it is, and I full heartily agree.

I chat with other car guys when I run into them and they usually seem to know at least the general specs on what you're driving no matter what they are driving and regardless of whether they like your car. I'm not talking encyclopedic knowledge but as a car guy they have been interested enough to check it out and know the general performance envelope, FWD, rear wheel drive, etc. You definitely cant always tell who your talking to until they open their mouth though, lots of self professed car people are not that at all. These are the ones that invariably spew what I think of as stupid comments. The one kid mentioned that was surprised about it being the same V8 in two different cars just sounds like someone who isn't into it and so doesn't know much about it. These people I don't think of a stupid when they makes such comments, they just don't know.

Anyhow good thread, I only have stupid corvette comments to share which don't belong here but I'll be enjoying the chuckles as the come.

I had a guy working under my supervision a few months ago that was new to our company. He was an older fellow so in making small talk I asked him what he did before coming aboard. He replied that he managed an Auto Zone (or something similar I don't remember the exact store.) This conversation ensued:

Me: You you remember if you were able to order 10w60 motor oil?
Him: No, man couldn't get anything like that.
Him: What are you putting that in anyways? A Motorcycle?
Me: Its a 2008 BMW M3.
Him: Oh you don't need to put that oil in there, there are plenty of alternatives.
Me: Well, there are some alternatives if you need to top off in order to get the car to an immediate oil change.
Him: No way man, you can run different types of oil in that thing, read the manual
Me: Yea I have read the manual, and have done a fair amount of research on the internet.
Him: Internet? You can't trust what you read on the internet.
Him: What about all the other models BMW puts that engine in?
Me: The M3 is the only car that comes what that particular engine... nevermind man.
Him: I'll look it up tonight and tell you what all oil you can run.

The next time I saw him I didn't bring it up and neither did he.
