Well in that case you probably need to spend an additional 30k on the STI so that the interior quality is on par with the M3. Funny story, the guy was cool about it. But to be honest, I had an 08, on the street off a light those cars are disgustingly fast. Without a launch i'd be dead even with a launched m3 up to 60, then I'd get walked after that (my car was tuned only). But with a launch, I have taken every single e9x M i've raced. A STG. 2 STi runs slightly faster ET's than a stock/exhaust only M3 with a MUCH lower trap. Do the math on that, through the 1/8th mile the suby is way ahead, the last half the m3 is coming hard.

No doupt about it , the interior of the STI is far from BMW quality , especially a M3 ! What I meant was that the STI and M3 are both build with the same philosophy(pretty much same balance between luxury and performance) but with big difference in budget so no one should expect the STI to perform as much as the M3! But for someone who would prefer more performance then luxury , the STI would be a good platform to start with cause it can easily outperform a stock M3 for a lot less money and still be a good daily driver ! Personnally I love my M3 , but if I did'nt had the budget for it , the STI would probably be my choice for a trackable daily driver , instead of a Mustang for exemple ! In fact , no , it would be a B8 S4 that I would buy , back in 08 when I bought my 09 STI there was not that option but now it's an easy choice between those two !!

For a track car I'd want a RWD car. I think that makes you a much better driver in the end. But that's just me.

I wish I keep mine to be honest. Some days I just miss being thrown into my seat off the line. Other days I miss just beating on it and not being so worried about breaking something. Oh well. I love my M none the less. But as you know, the STI was a great bang for the buck car. Ugly or not, it was a fun ass car.

2006....you're right...I loved it. I get a lot of crap from my co-workers about the giant wing and the boy-racer look.

However, it's time to move on the the next level for me.

I loved my 06! That was one of the rawest feeling STI's they made. Haha, I got the same shit from my friends and family too. I had the 2011 STI for 9 months and got into my M3 because I just couldn't do the boy racer look anymore too.

That said I promised myself I wouldn't mod my E92 M3. Yet, it has lip, spoiler, exhaust, intake, etc, etc... But it looks good! LOL.

Everybody somehow accepts the "fact" that M3s are mid-twelves cars, but unless you are an extremely accomplished drag racer, you're going to be closer to thirteen flat in a quarter mile at a high-traction drag strip, and slower than that on the street. On the other hand, it'll be easier to launch his car properly on the street than at a drag strip, and since most street races are shorter than a quarter mile, you'd most likely lose.

Given your attitude, that would be funny.

Granted, the M3 is a terrific all-around car and the STI less so, but in this sort of narrow venue, you'd be in trouble.

I thought it was a funny situation and with the V8 Killer bumper sticker, I'm sure he has to expect comments like mine. BTW, I come from a Heavily Modded 04 STI so, I'm quite aware of the capabilities of that car with mods. I've raced a few of them on the dragstrip and beaten them all. I don't know about your car but mine will run 12.3-12.5's all day long. I don't get the attack on my "Attitude" but, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It was a funny scenario!

And I still like the Evo more than the STI, if we are comparing AWD turbo cars with a lot of potential for modification.

Yeah - but not for the first half, which was my point about street racing, where you can't launch as well as on track, and the Subie can launch at least as well as on track - or even better.

Bruce, I ran a 12.53 on the street using a vbox style reader. I forgot what the trap was, but i believe it was 112 or so. This was last summer right when I got my Supersports on, not using launch mode and after a few attempts. I'm a firm believer that this car runs like shit at most tracks, regardless if anyone bought this car strictly for straight line they picked the wrong car

I guess it all depends if you consider a V8 miata a good daily driver , where I'm from there's a bit too much snow to pass all year long with a miata , also it's not the most practical car for summer anyway , if I was in the market for a small roadster only for summer or tracking , I'd probably put a sc on a Z or a S2000 !

Yeah , maybe but until now I prefer AWD for track cause I can take off the traction control and go all out as opposite to my M3 that I need to be carefull on the trhottle even with the traction on if I don't want it to cut the engine , but that can only be me and my medium tracking skills ! But anyway I prefer to have 1 car that does everything good instead of a cheaper track car and a cheaper road car , maybe one day if I'm rich I'll have a GT3 RS for the track and a 911TT for daily but until then I lovvvvve my M3 !

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm at the point in my life where 1 car that does it all is best for me. The M3 is perfect for it.

I find the M3 extremely forgiving with traction control off. I've only done 6 track days in my life so far and ran my last event at Laguna with it completely off. I always felt in complete control. RWD cars are are just so much fun at the track and there's a huge sense of accomplishment (at least at my skill level) when you are controlling the car yourself. I felt the same as you with AWD when I drove in MDM. I was pushing the car past the limits of the car's grip because I knew the system would keep it in check. It just wasn't helping me become a better driver. I'd be doing the same with AWD.

I have to agree with the Evo. Much easier to add power, a lot more responsive in cornering, loads of feedback and overall a much tighter car to drive. The STIs have always been kinda soft with an emphasis on comfort over performance - not quite as hardcore as the Evo. With S-AYC on the Evo X models, it drives like a RWD car and power slides are fun.

Bruce; My best times were .298 RT, 1.932 60' and 12.32 @ 113.03mph. I've only been to the dragstrip 2 times. I felt the arrogant sticker called for an arrogant comment.
