APR GTC-300 wing and Splitter on E90 M3 :)

Don't worry I used a spare trunk All of this is removable without a trace. I'm prepping for One lap of america. After which they'll all come off for daily driving!

Congrats on membership! Are you sure it's the weekend or perhaps this week? I need to balance the downforce at speed. It's too dangerous on the street

Looks great. Hard to tell from the pics, but if there is a gap between the splitter and the lower front bumper you should seal that to allow the splitter to do it's job properly. I would expect a lot of high speed understeer otherwise because the GTC300 provides quite a bit of downforce.

You are absolutely correct sir! I need to plug those two holes - any suggestions welcome.

The idea is maximize the effect of the splitter and then work my way up with the wing until balance is achieved

Exactly. I had a similar issue on my E36 racecar, way more wing than my splitter could handle.

I don't know how much you care about being able to put it back to stock looks, but I would just put gorilla tape over the front there as a temporary solution. The problem is you need the front to be flush or close to it-airflow is a fickle thing.

I'd also look in to dive planes, I'm sure someone makes some for these cars.

I'll just use gorilla tape to close it up then. (goo gone cleans up residue easily)
Maybe I'll get something firm to back it up so it's flush.

I'm not sure I'm ready to add dive planes or canards yet - that involves some bumper drilling and bracing... I've got a few more weeks so I'll think about it.

What about gurney flaps? I know it's for trailing edge - but what if I put it on the leading edge? hmmm...

Yeah I'm not even getting close to the potential of the wing. It's set at the lowest angle right now (1.4 degrees) and according to specs it's delivering close to the zero degree 150lbs of downforce, 17lbs of drag at 80mph.

I've got to get more frontal downforce

Gurney flaps are for the rear wing, and don't work on APR style wings anyway. They basically just clean up the airflow and increase the wing's downforce, but I don't think it'd work up front. Definitely tape up those holes though.

That amount of downforce will be noticeable but not crazy, but at 120mph it should produce 400+ pounds and that will really plant the car. Even an enormous front splitter probably won't make as much as your wing will make, my goal was always just to get close(r). Good luck in the one lap, I've always wanted to run that.

thanks!

Here's the specific data on the wing
http://www.aprperformance.com/index....sk=view&id=181

at 120mph theres 345lb of force and 39lb of drag

I wonder how much top speed that will kill

Bad ass wing and splitter. Look forward to hearing how they perform for you in one lap.

I'm sure it will kill some of it. With an acceleration of 60-130 in 6.1s which gets me to 130 in less than 10 at tracks with longer straights I'm lifting to avoid going too fast because the car becomes unstable with the aero.

Recently at VIR I hit 160 at the end of the back straight. Huge pucker factor.
With aero it should be me a little more confidence at those speeds as well as help with high speed sweeping turns - helps keep the sticky side down

Not a whole lot actually. The wing I had was rated for similar downforce and drag (slightly less drag and slightly less downforce), and cost me only 1-2 mph at most tracks peak speed. You come out of the corner faster coming on the straight typically because of the extra grip, and that amount of drag is not very much. A wing like that is good for 2 seconds a lap at VIR once you get used to it.

A E36 LTW wing, on the other hand, is an anchor.

That's awesome, I only did 150 in mine and 160 in a GT-R, what power mods do you have?

I have the ESS vt2-625 and Akra evo exhaust. HP is just at 650 crank, dynoing at 560whp. It's kind of scary "floating" at 160mph without aero!

I may go to VIR again for UTCC.

The APR wing is actually extremely lightweight since it's all CF.
