I'm quite glad you posted this as I read the article about an hour ago by just happening upon the website to see what was new and couldn't remember if someone had posted up a link to it here.

I think it's quite a good article and about the most positive review of the M3 yet. It's nice to hear good press after i've been nay-saying this car all day.

Not too bad. My only concern is not performance (this is obviously a great engine), braking (BMW never comes close to Porsche with brakes anyway), handling (M cars always have benign dynamics), but in the steering. So many of the reviews have criticized the steering as too light, as having not enough feedback, etc. I am wondering, because my 335i has wonderful steering -- better then the last M3 IMO but not as perfect as the E36 M3 steering and not quite as good as a newer Porsche. If the steering in the new car is as good as the 335i, then there's not that much to worry about. It is light at low engine speeds, but it is also precise with good feedback, which brings up a question: Is the speed sensitive steering in the new M3 speed sensitive or engine speed sensitive?

$63k base? I hope not. With all options you could be talking $75K, that's crazy.

As good as it is there is no way it's worth mid 60's $$. I'll keep my twenty grand and get a 335 or a used 997 for a bit more.

And yes stopping distances are shorter the first time you hit the pedal, but after that nothing comes close to those Brembo sourced 4 piston Porsche brakes.

About the price, I have been saying this for 6 months and still hold by it - This cars BASE MSRP will be $65,000 US.
Throw in 19s, MDCT, EDC, MDrive, the stereo and a few other things, and you're talking $72 PLUS.
This car will be WAY OVERPRICED AND WILL SIT ON DEALER LOTS RUSTING, JUST AS M5's and M6's ARE NOW!!

Just wait and see.

I wonder how they came up with that. It's not a round number like 60k or 65k, usual speculative targets. I agree that if the MSRP ends up being 60k+, sales (including to me) will suffer.

Wrong. Won't be that high.

$16k increase isn't realistic.

I would love it to be COMPLETELY wrong and be able to drive my M3 off the dealer lot for less than 65K.

+1

Raising the price of the car by a full 1/3 would be sales suicide for BMW.

There's no way I'd pay upwards of $75-80k for an M3 w/ the options I want when I can go out and get a loaded 335i cab for $20k less.

The MSRP on the old model was $48900. 20% hike would be $58680.

On the street, the new M3 brakes will be fine; however, many peformance cars with decent brakes for the street come up short on the track, if you intend to take your car there. BMW M products, among many others (Vettes, 350z, etc.), are known for having crap brakes for lapping on the track, though they work great in magazine road tests. Porsche brakes generally work the same on the last lap as the first. Plus, the feel of BMW brakes is not nice and linear like P-car brakes. If this M has decent brakes, it will be a first. I am hoping you are right...

No way it will be 65K, vert is coming out too, so that will be a 73-74K base price vert? No way.
