Did a search and it seems quite a few people have experience steering vibrations in the M. Obviously, most are due to some combination of tire (im)balance, rim damage, inflation pressure, warped rotors, spacers, etc...

My question is, and I'm curious to get others' experience, is how much vibration, if any, is to be expected?

My situation: 2011 E92 on 255 & 275 /35/19 PSS on ZCP wheels, stock suspension, no spacers.

I get vibration from about 110 km/h and increasing in intensity at 130km/h.

It's not violent, but it's there. No alignment issues as the car doesn't pull in any direction, though there is a slight loss in steering feel at higher speeds.

On a scale of 1 --> 10, 1 = Lexus ES and 10 = late 80s VW Jetta, I'd say it's a 4/5 (maybe a 3 if you adjust for 'crazy' gene we on this forum seem to have when it comes to the M).

Honestly I think a tiny bit is normal since these performance tires are rather harsh, however I have lots of vibration so I'm getting an alignment today. It's about time anyways. If that doesn't solve my issue then rebalance the tires. my car doesn't pull either.

I've had vibration on all the sets of wheels I've owned when cold
When they are hot less so
Low profile tires do that

I have noticed this as well...you have to build some heat in the tires..but this should not be described as vibrations..more like building heat into the tires

I had 275/30 PS2 on the front of my 350Z and it didn't "need to build any heat in the tires". Absolutely no vibration with just a regular balance. There's something about how the suspension is designed that's amplifying the slightest imbalance into something that you can feel at the wheel.

Not surprisingly, mine is still there even after an alignment.

I have no vibration at all at any speed and I use both the 219m and 359m wheels on the road and track respectively. The only time I had any vibration was when I ran over a moderate size pothole on my left front 359m wheel, which I suspected would have bent it a little. I jacked the car up and spun the wheel by hand and focused my eyes on the edge of the inner rim. True enough, there was a slight bend of no more than a few millimetres. I had the wheel professionally straightened and all was good.

The thing is with our cars is that the suspension and steering setup is rigid for a road car and is sensitive to anything that is out of balance. My advice is to have the wheels spun one by one to check for any radial or lateral runout. If there is none, then proceed to to have the tyres road force balanced.

Both 19inch wheels (220m and 359m) are susceptible to bending from potholes. Visual inspection of a static wheel is not enough to spot the slightest bends, it has to be spun. This is the reason I run 18 inch wheels on the road, it makes a significant difference in pothole resistance.

Also note that because you are running upsized tyres, the additional rotational weight will amplify any imbalances.

I had a slight vibrate, but went and had wheels road forced balanced again and now no vibration what so ever at any speeds.

If your having vibration I would say that there is something not right.
