135i ist available for tests yet so how can he be so sure about 135i, by looking at numbers only?

True enough - I think the size and expected weight etc.. makes the 135i a very interesting propostition - also should be much cheaper to buy and own :@)

More expensive, more power to make up for added weight, and overall bigger while adding luxury....hmmm when was the last time an M3 had that taped to its head. Oh yeah, the last M3 that came out...oh and the one before that....this ish is getting old

I can't blame anyone for taking the chance to wait... but I'm happy to bet there will not be an M1 (they certainly won't use that name) with a LSD and while you're waiting to find out, I will clock up 50k miles of happy M-driving...

So what exactly is this guy saying? How exactly is the M3's weight and cost "not dissimilar" from the M5? (Of course there is no mention of handling and character). And, by the same token, why should someone even consider the 135 as a serious alternative to the M3 just because it costs and weighs less? Then we should all be driving the new Evo?

Here are the differences and outlining contradictions what he's saying:

Weight:
135i (~1450kg); M3 (1650kg); M5(1830kg)

Cost:
135i (~33,000); M3 (51,000); M5 (64600)


So, the M3-135 weight/cost differences are very similar to the M3-M5 weight/cost difference.

This is indeed rubbish.

The weight of the 135i has already been published: 1560kg (EU standard).

So the weight to HP ratios are:

135: 5.1 kg/HP
M3: 3.9 kg/HP
M5: 3.6 kg/HP

Thanks for the info (135 is indeed heavier than I thought). There is still a difference for both the 135/M3 and M3/M5. Cost is clearly more so. The M3 and the M5 are different in so many other respects as well.

Also, keep in mind that BMW has severely underrated the 135 engine on paper (I don't think the same is true for the M3 engine). My understanding is that it is putting out more like 340hp+ on dyno testing, which would bring the 135 kg/HP ratio to ~4.5.

+1...and +80HP (or more) is a simple chip perhaps exhaust away, so now we are talking 1450/420 = 3.45...assuming they haven't done something like delete the oil cooler, intercooler, etc. that would make that boost level difficult from a temp perspective.

Here we go again. Now with the 135 with chip/intake/exhaust is better than the 335 and the M3.
