Samsung UN55ES8000? (NSFW payment)

So I was looking at UN55D8000s.... (as some may know, I did post a thread about it before) and Amazon told me about the Samsung UN55ES8000

Looked into it...looks awesome...but is it worth the $$??

$2500 for a 46in, $2900 for a 55in

Un55D is still pricey IMO (considering there were some sick deals I missed out on) with 46in about $1600, 55in $2300

(all prices from Amazon)

I will most likely go with the 55...

Can't comment on the E. I have the D and its an incredible tv. I would always spend extra on the newer model. I have a 52 inch 7 series Samsung that I can't even watch any more because the UN55D is so much better. As others have said get a good sound bar.

I've purchased 2 different soundbars from BestBuy and had to return them both. Both sounded worse than my tiny speakers that are on the TV itself.

What bars do you recommend?

I'm just looking for a little more sound. I'm not looking for a Theater set-up.

I have the UN55d8000, and I would probably hold out for the newer model. I have lots of issues with screen uniformity and flash lighting

I have a und468000. After the purchase I regretted not moving up to the 55, but I guess my bedroom is too small to support such a large screen anyway. For $400 more I wouldn't hesitate.

Nevertheless the picture is unreal, and I don't mind the speakers for what they are, granted my room is not large by any means.

I picked up the un55d7000 for $1600 on Black Friday. I LOVE the tv. I saw that some mentioned the sound....i think the sound is plenty good enough for a medium sized room. My friend has a un46d8000 and there is no difference in picture that I can see.

You could easily get UN55D8000 below $1900 after tax with free shipping with free glasses.
Cheapest I saw was $1699 with tax two weeks ago on slickdeals.net

I just picked up a UN55D8000, Samsung 3D Blu-Ray Player, and 4 pairs of glasses for 1700 at Frys Electronics. Best deal I've seen in a long time and I couldn't get it out of the store fast enough.

Amazing TV!

Also interested in picture comparison between D and ES.

Seems ES has a bunch of crap I don't think many of us need (camera/sensor/apps/...), and it will obviously be significantly pricier than the D (with the deals that have been popping up).

Need to find the time to drive down to Best Buy and have a look...

Got the d8000 3 weeks ago. bought it for $2400 with a bd player and 2 extra glasses, went on sale a week later for $2k without the extras and still got a price adjustment from bestbuy. I tweaked the settings to optimum settings recommended by avforums and the image quality is unreal(nothing beats a plasma when it comes to black though).

Went back to bestbuy last weak and saw the new 8000, started a conversation with the sales guy...he said that all the novelty items that the new one comes with are just that, novelty items. They are "buggy" as you would expect with the first gens. But picture quality is pretty much the same unless you really scrutinize it then the edge lit 2011 loses just by a hair

BTW, not much of a 3d fan but I watched Hugo(sucky movie) and it was pretty awesome.

Am I the only one with screen uniformity issues, flashlighting, and banding?

Paid $1900 from Best buy approx. 1 year ago

The beauty about fry's is they price match Internet prices...within limits. I know that they price match amazon as long as amazon is the seller, b&h, adorama
