Navigation Auto Dim/Night Mode
The F series cars feature auto dimming/night mode for navigation when it gets dark. Is manually selecting "night mode" the only dimming option on the E9X's?.

Well, a search turned up this as the latest thread on this question of night mode.
My 2009 E92 idrive has a check box to allow "night mode", but it appears to have no effect. The screen colors are uniformly gray on the navi. I could have sworn that early on when I bought the car in Feb, the navi displayed a much richer palette of colors. - Is this check box/feature useless, as per the above comments? - Is a navi screen of a uniform gray background the norm? I can snap a picture if it would help...thanks in advance...
