Gun pulled on me today

Just as the title says, I was driving home from work today and this guy cuts me off trying to get in the turning lane. I lay on my horn to let the guy know, but he continues on. As a result, I went into the other lane and jumped in front of him. We then came to a stop and eventually turned when the traffic light turned green. He tried to somewhat speed around me so I jump in front of him again to show that I'm not happy about the situation. I then look at him in the side mirror and he's signaling me to pull over (I assume to fight or something). I smile, nod, and proceed with my route. Afterwards, he pulls beside me as we're driving (I had my windows down the entire time since it was a nice day) and start's calling me a "Pu$$y," etc. and I just stated that "You f-ing cut me off." He said something simliar to what he said before and I repeated, "You f-ing cut me off." After doing so, he immediately pulls a gun and points it at me (I was on his driver's side) and said something (I don't remember what he said). Obviously, I freaked the hell out and immediately turned on a side street and was able to take an alternate route home with no issue. I'll be the first to admit that I was a dick and provoked him, but I felt justified at the time since I felt that he was the first offender and it seemed intentional. Because I have perfect 20/20 hindsight, I now realize that it was dumb of me to provoke someone I don't know (especially in Houston). Either way, I can't believe that someone would be that crazy and do something like that because of a petty situation. I'm still somewhat concerned because I was on my daily commute home from work, and, obviously, travel that route very often. However, the other side of me feels that if he was going to shoot me, he would have. I hope I don't run into the guy again, but if I do, I'll keep my distance, grab his license plate number just in case, and remain cordial. Damn, what a day...

That's what happens when you live in a gun happy state...remember, for all he knew you could have been packing as well...

Wow! Glad it didn't escalate any further. I'm an armed citizen, and believe in gun rights, but what that ass clown did speaks poorly to the concept of concealed carry. There's verbal provocation, and then there's situation that can require one to flip the switch to business time. It sounds like there was a chasm of distance between those two in your situation.

Glad you're ok.

Is it legal to show off your piece like walk around with a bolster? I know it must be illegal to point it at someone for no reason.

I cant speak for Texas but in Florida as a concealed weapon holder I have to avoid escalating a conflict, I can't place myself into a fight where I need to pull a gun in self defense, i have to avoid conflict and basically back down and be a pussy. He was in the wrong for escalating and then pulling a weapon.

You could have raped his dog and called him what you wanted, and he still can't pull a gun to get the upper hand in an argument unless he has an immediate fear of losing his life. If he placed himself in danger he can't pull the gun.

Even if he really was in fear and pulled the gun but didn't use it, then he wasn't really in fear of his life and was just brandishing and would still go to jail.

In some states once the immediate threat to life ends, you can't shoot someone. Like if someone raped your wife while holding a shotgun to your head, and they later threw the gun on the ground and were in the process of leaving... then you shoot them as they are walking out the door, you are the one in shit because the immediate threat to life ended when he put the gun down and started walking out.

In short... If you pull a gun you had better not have started it or had a part of the escalation, you better be in real fear of your life, and better make sure you shoot to kill and not wave it around to gain leverage. He fucked up by not meeting any of these conditions.

He should be in jail and gives legal CCW carriers a bad name.

firstly I think the lesson learned is cooler heads will defuse most situations. With all those nuts out there, you just can't count on others using their head in these heated situations.

I'm like you, and get hot headed over stuff like this, but I have learned, it's not worth it at the end. It doesn't prove anything to anyone, and can only get much worse than a shouting match. Soon I'll have a wife and kid to come home to, I have to keep my cool.

Dick or not, he didn't deserve a gun pointed at him unless he was an immediate threat to the other person's life.

I'm in Houston as well, somebody once pulled out a gun at my uncle as well and he didn't even provoke him, my uncle was like go go, and the guy still pulled out a gun.. Houston is freaking gay with the gun rule, like seriously. Hate this state in general.

nobody will use their gun if they point it at you and don't shoot it - I believe that is just scare tactics of the weak... when they pull it out and start shooting , then you know they really just dont give a fuck.

Buy an ak-47 and keep it on your passenger seat. Good luck in your future gun battles.

On a serious note, don't ever waste your time or energy on jackass drivers, after this situation I'm sure you won't.

Don't worry about seeing him on your commute odds are really small. He shouldn't flash his gun like that either though, Im licensed to carry and do every day but I know thats just stupid to pull it in an angry situation. You obviously learned your lesson too since you admitted it in your OP.

Maybe now you might think a little more about owning a gun too...

What about a description of the car? If its on your daily commute, by some slim chance if he has a distinct vehicle you could see him again. This time, kindly wave him to go infront of you and grab his plate #.

As a carrier myself, no one should ever know you have the weapon. Here in West Virginia they teach in the classes if you pull your gun out, you're using it and if you don't use it then it should of never been pulled.

08Bwags: Yeah - I definitely learned my lesson and will play it cool - real crazies out there.

I do own a handgun (Sig 1911) and a rifle (30.06), but don't carry (no CHL). I may get a CHL, but even if I was carrying at the time, I wouldn't have done anything different.

johnson47376: He had a new black supercrew F-150 (no mods), so a description given to the police wouldn't have really helped (tons of those around here!).

Really? So what's the deal with the Trayvon Martin case where the neighborhood watch guy actually follows the kid on the street, initiates a conflict despite being told specifically by the 911 operator not to pursue the kid and shoots the kid dead, yet does not get arrested?

I'm not trying to start an argument about the right to bear arms, just genuinely curious about your knowledge of Florida gun laws and how they do or don't apply in the Trayvon Martin case.

I don't agree that you should only pull your gun if your going to blaze away.
I have pulled mine (whilst living in 3rd world countries) and gotten out of robberies since they didn't have guns or because I saw the situation coming. The poorer the country, the earlier you see them coming.

Now to use a gun because you're angry, like the pistolero guy of this thread, doesn't do good to anyone.
Luckily the Op got away with an extra dosis of adrenaline.
Did you forget to call the cops because of the situation?
