Exclamation Fair Deal? 2011 E92 M3

Looking at a 2011 E92 M3 ZCP

9996 mi.
6-Spd
AW w/ Fox Red interior
Carbon FiberTrim
Competition Pkg
Tech. Pkg
Convenience Pkg
Cold Weather Pkg
Premium Pkg 2
All other options minus Auto high beam, Rear Sunshade...
EDIT: Does NOT have premium sound.
Dealer is asking $64,790...

I plan on trading a 2005 M3 with 68K on the clock.
It has everything but Navigation and ZCP.

Not sure what type of budge I may be able to get. KBB is only a couple thousand less, but I know that is only an average.

Thoughts?

I'm confused. It had comp pkg but no zcp and doesn't premium pkg mean it had nav?

Never mind, brain fart, you meant your 06 does not have nav and zcp. Sorry. Sounds like a reasonable deal, but always try to do better.

Seems pretty high to me. A brand new one would be just $5K more MSRP, and it would be equal in price (via discounts) to a brand new one from one of the trusted forum sponsors.

Quite alright. You're absolutely correct, I will try to work a better deal. I already am pre-approved through my credit union and I figure if I show up with cash in hand (well check, actually), then they would be more likely to work with me.

That's exactly where my head is right now, so im in hopes that playing that angle will help. I could easily go to my local dealership in VA and order one and not pay much of a difference. I suppose we will see what happens when i get there.

Doesn't matter ultimately what they sell the new car is. All that matters is the difference between the trade-in value and the purchase price. They could give you an awesome price on the purchase but screw you on the trade-in. Only consider the differential and not the absolute numbers.

I'm picking up a nearly identical car tonight, the only differences are:

20,000 Miles vs: ~10,000 Miles
Black Interior vs: Fox Red
DCT vs: 6 Speed
Not sure if yours is CPO, but mine is so thats the remainders of the factory 4yr 50,000 mile + an additional 2 years up until 100,000 miles.

My price is $58,000 - the dealer was asking ~$65,000

Then why not order brand new? The challenge is selling your current car vs. ease of trading in. But if you're trading with the dealer, I personally think it is very hard to get a "good deal".

You could pay even thousands less than the car you're looking at for a brand-new model via European Delivery.

You are correct. I've considered the above and their ballpark numbers for my current vehicle were on par with what kbb.com was suggesting that I should expect. Ultimately, just as you said, I'll have to see what the numbers would work out to.

Congrats! Sounds like an awesome car. The one I am looking at is not CPO'd, but I would probably end up getting the extended maintenance and warranty in the future. I'm kicking myself for not getting it for my E46. Out of curiosity, if you dont mind me asking, are you financing through the dealer or your own bank/credit union? My credit union is offering me 2.99% right now and it seems like a pretty legit rate.

Absolutely, but being in the military makes it a little harder to get the extended period of time off the get over there and actually enjoy it as intended.

I got the same rate through my credit union, but they were requiring me to do 8 electronic transactions per month. They aren't my main bank, so i didn't want to take the risk of racking up penalties over the years. The dealer got me 3.39% through bank of america, I chose to go with them for the sheer convenience and no minimum activity

That makes sense, you made the smarter choice IMO. I have USAA, so no additional requirements. Was your 58K price tag excluding taxes? How are you enjoying the car thus far??

OTD I was $62,xxx

I'm loving the car, I've yet to take it on a back road. Just the morning drive to work, but it is definitely an upgrade from a Z06. A little quite for me, but that will be fixed soon.

DCT in S5 is phenomenal, I am glad I talked myself out of 6MT

For the price your dealer is asking you are in the neighborhood of a new m3 from Ryan Amico or David Aviles. Why not drop one of these guys an email and then have your car built up. I would just drop that dealer.

Get the new car...you'll be happier and sleep better...no regrets.

You liked the DCT that much better? I've never driven it because I absolutely love 6spd.

Good Advice. Called David today and he was very straightforward with he pricing. I will probably be ordering one. It also doesn't help that I checked out the car and the salesman was unprofessional and seemed very aloof and not knowledgeable whatsoever...

Honestly I did and I went into it thinking I wouldn't. I came from a 6 speed Z06 and I always thought that I wouldn't want the M3 speced any other way. I drove both and boy was I wrong.

The way I see it, DCT is one of the defining aspects of the M3 and it is one of those options you just need to get. Try to drive on and really get on the gas and shift - although that is not how you'll drive everyday, its amazing what the car can do.

UPDATE

So after further consideration, I am planning on purchasing a brand new E92. The used car market is very strong right now and you guys were completely correct about the new car pricing vice settling for a used one. Thank you to all for all of the great advice!
