Question cargo net mounting points?

I just received my 2011 e90 M3 and went to install my cargo net from my e60 M5. Much to my dismay the only mounting points for the cargo net were the two at the entance to the trunk. The two that would be near to the back of the trunk were missing. Does any body know if the mounting points are actually there and are hidden underneath the fabric trunk liner? The dealer said they did not know if the mounting holes are actually there but they would give me the mounts, if I want to try and installing them myself. I hate to start drill holes in a new car to mount them myself.

The mounting slots are still in the chassis, at least in my April build E90. I had to get the latches and trim pieces non-returnable special order but they fit just fine. Bit of a PITA to get the holes just the right shape and fit, but patience and a dremel will get you there. I think about an hour in total. Sadly the resulting mount points are a few inches off the floor, so sometimes smaller or thinner items will still move around compared to the low loops I have in my E39 M5.

Yep, BMW cut 8,9,10,11, and 13 from new E90's a while back.
(For that matter, 10 (or maybe it was 11) wasn't provided when I ordered the parts... I'm guessing it's actually the same part as 11 but for a different chassis?)

Thanks for all the info. I am going to ask BMW why this parts were omitted, since they are clearly shown in manual, and there is no indication when ordering the car that they would not be supplied.

They're clearly shown for the coupe, but not for the sedan. Of course, the word "sedan" doesn't even appear in the M3 owner's manual.

BMW is going to say they reserve the right to make changes at any time. In this case they decontented to save a couple of bucks. Very much like switching the sun visors from cloth to vinyl.

You folks are bringing up bad memories for me.

I've missed the nets in the back of the seats on both my e90 M3s. I kept the trunk cargo net from my '09 to install in the '11, only to find out the forward mounts aren't there in the '11.

Dude, a Dremel and a couple beers and you can have your cargo net installed again...

Now I'm thinking about the seat back... $111 but that would be pretty handy...

Awesome. I need to do that (the seat back).

So you're saying the parts you identified earlier (9, 10, 11, 13) are the missing parts in the '11 e90s? I just need to cut a hole in the liner for them to attach to the chassis?

I've had this car 15 months and I'm just getting to this now?

Oh yeah... I forgot I need to order up a "floor parcel net" as well...
Our Z3 came with one and we liked it so much we stuck one in the M5 as well... I keep forgetting to get one for the M3... great for water bottles that don't fit in the front door pockets or cup holders.

The seat-back pocket is great for storing my son's coloring books. Right now they just sit on the floor and get dirty.
If only I could figure out a good place to store the giant, rigid BMW front sunscreen I'd be golden!

And yes...I do spend too much time at Container Store, but I can't stand having loose items moving around in the car when driving.

My 2010 didn't have the trunk anchor or seat storage either. As mentioned earlier, the anchor points are still there & it's a fairly easy DIY project. I did the 335d & M3 in ~2 hours. Pulled the liners & used a grease pencil & utility knife.

Smile Cargo net hardware

I contacted BMW NA. They agreed to give me the missing mounting hardware and even have the dealer install it. I told them that I would install it myself since my car is stored in my garage for the winter.

Nice, I wonder if that trick will work with the missing seat back nets on my car.

Just did one seatback. Ordered 52 10 9 166 9 08 from Bavarian for $113.
Don't miss getting the two plastic "7-clips" 52 20 1 964 201, under a buck each. I had to completely destroy the old ones to get them out. Once I destroyed the heads on them, the panel slide down then popped out pretty easily. A few minutes with some pliers removed what was left of the clips and then the new panel went in pretty easily. The trick seems to be starting it at an angle to get the two middle clips behind the seatback frame rails, then straighten it out and slide the top clips into position. Tap in the new 7-clips and you're done.

I also put in a net on the front passenger side of the transmission tunnel. I used the Z3-style net with a metal frame since I've done a few already... 51 47 2 261 407 for $19 plus 4 clips 51 47 2 263 062 under a buck each. I had to carefully bend the frame a bit to match the curve of the tunnel. Holds a few 24oz water bottles pretty well for long trips, but don't put chocolate in it or the engine heat will cook it... a lesson from the roadtrip to Z3 homecoming ten years ago.

That's cool. I'm surprised. Those parts were deleted at the beginning of model year 2010. You must be very persuasive on the phone. The decontenting was pretty much BS on BMW's part.
