Agreed, total mileage on the vehicle is what a buyer is purchasing. That works very well for me, as I expect to reach the time limit (5 years) prior to the mileage limit (75k total vehicle miles).

All of the programs I saw while researching warranties used Total Vehicle Mileage (TVM) as the mileage cap. This is different than your interpretation as stated above. Can you get a copy of a sample contract or term and conditions? This will identify the Excluded items (which you will need to know) and may provide some clarity on the mileage cap.

Good question! Since I'm pulling the trigger on the car this week, I'll try to stop by the CU and try to get the service agreement so I can scan it and see if I got my info wrong with the mileage. In the meantime, here is the brochure I got (sorry for the writing):

I didn't see the fine print to where "Electronics" are not covered under CPO

Ok so went to the CU to ask about the mileage if it was Total mileage or additional milage from time of purchase - They said it was additional milage, so basically with the car I'm buying (has 17,590 miles) I will be covered for 60 mos AND 85k additional miles (total 102,590 miles). I asked for a sample contract, and after 30 minutes of trying they couldn't generate a sample contract (hmm). So I guess I'll just have to wait for the check to clear, get the call from the CU, get the NAC contract, then scan it and post it here. Either way I was going with this than the CPO'd that the dealer is offering me since NAC covers electrical AND more mos/miles.

What is a TCU??

Also, funny how at the bottom it state if Vehicle is a Twin Turbo - hahahah had a flashback of my 335 and it's 3 HPFP failures!!!

Hey Chief, I looked at the sample contract you posted (thanks for that) and it looks like they measure the 5 years from your vehicles "in-service" date if you were between 12k and 50k miles when you purchased the warranty. Check out page 2 section (1)(a). You should have some kind of "expiration date" on the actual contract though and that will win out over this sample of course. Curious if you got 5 years from the warranty purchase or from "in-service".

I am looking at getting a USAA extension and thought I should have a look over this before purchasing. I am hoping for 5 actual years and it looks like that is the case if you have under 12k miles when you get the warranty.

So I went today to close the loan thru my CU and got the Platinum Extended Warranty by NAC. I know there has been some confusion as to the mileage if it is TOTAL or from date of purchase of said warranty - With NAC it is at the time of purchase ON TOP of existing mileage. So in my case, car has 17,590 miles and bought coverage for 5 yrs / 75k miles so it will be valid until 01/30/2017 or 92,590 miles. I'm attaching the contract and would appreciate any thoughts.

Congrats! Thank you for sharing your policy.

Looks like you get at few more miles than I do. It seems that all three of these contracts are very similar. We'll have to see how these play out over time.

I bought the plan as well with USAA. I paid 1637 for 72 mos/72K miles. Car had 1700 miles on it good until 2017. What I did not like is that the "Administrator" decides the kind of part that will be purchased (i.e. non OEM could be a possibility).

I'll agree that its possible, but given my history with USAA and vehicle repairs during the past 20+ years (and always receiving OEM parts) I would find it very difficult to believe USAA/Assurant would not use OEM pieces for any repairs under their policy.

Putting on the rose colored glasses for a moment...maybe this possibility allows USAA/Assurant the option to use Dinan or Turner parts when requested by the policyholder.

Next question, Do you think the USAA warranty will cover a DCT problem?

Under the schedule of covered parts, it lists:
2) Transmission Assembly: Transmission case, transaxle case, transfer case, and all internally-lubricated parts, torque converter, vacuum modulator, cooler and metal cooler lines, and transmission mounts.
and
13) Power Train Electronics: ... Electronically-controlled transmission -- Transmission shift control processor and sensors.

Then under exclusions (from the sample):
Manual & Hydraulic clutch assembly such as, but not limited to; manual clutch pedal, clutch disc, pressure plate and throw-out bearing;

I'm not too familiar with the repairs on DCT transmissions but I have seen at least one post on someone getting their DCT replaced under the original factory warranty.

Just not sure what would be covered given the above warranty language. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Just wanted to throw it out there that I did end up getting the USAA Assurant Solutions Warranty, thanks Chief for pointing this option out.

I went for 6 years of coverage (from warranty purchase date) or 75k odometer miles, whichever comes first. Good pricing too.

Sure, a little over 10k miles and it was ~$1850 for the warranty. I think it was cheaper b/c of the low miles and still 6 months+ under the original BMW warranty. Not sure if they look that up though.
