Performance Exhaust

How much more horsepower does the BMW performance exhaust really add? I see some other exhaust can add up to 14 hp and are a little bit cheaper.

BMW does not advertise any performance gains. However, I saw two videos on You-Tube that quote +2hp and +7hp. Both are not significant increases but at least there are no losses.

I've had my performance exhaust installed for about a week now. My very inaccurate seat-of-the-pants feels a very slight increased eagerness in the engine mid-range. This seems to corroborate the dyno graphs that show more of an increase in the mid-range. However, my butt-dyno might be thrown off due to the great sound .

BMW claims only a "more powerful sound." Akra, which makes a very nice and expensive titanium exhaust, claims 3 rwhp. If you want more power, you need to remove one or both cats from the x-pipe by modifying your x-pipe or buying an aftermarket one already configured as you desire (resonators, high flow cats, neither, etc).

I found this claim here http://gtbperformance.gostorego.com/...m3-4x83mm.html

The Eisenmann Race performance offers a deep throaty exotic tone. This dyno proven system put down 16hp, and 11lb-ft of torque and is handmade in Germany.

Don't you think your statement is a bit too "absolute" ?

I'd rather say:

Most slip-ons do not add a significant amount of power.

When I had my Eisenmann Race on, the car felt like it had a little extra kick...I blew it off as just sounding faster.

The BMW Performance exhaust if roughly 20 lbs lighter than the stock counterpart. They don't advertise any power gains with the system, but it definitely does sound great. There are plenty of other systems out that are only only more affordable, but will also perform better. If you're looking for a system that sounds great, is light weight (Full system only weighs 33.8 lbs. Over 22 lbs lighter the OE system), is affordable, and has dyno proven gains (+18 HP / +13 TQ), I would recommend that you check out the AE Performance Exhaust system. Here's a sound clip for you to check out this great sounding exhaust in action!
