That first option doesn't sound good to me. That's actually what some scum people I know do to roll back miles, especially on a lease. They do the maintenance, but not at the dealer. Thus, the only recorded milage on a car is from very long ago and accurate. Any miles they add from 2009 to 2011, they just roll back and make it look like the car only did 6k miles from 2009 to 2011 instead of the actual 24k or more miles. If I was to buy an M3, I would want to see full service records and miles. Even if the owner didn't save the paperwork, the dealer would be able to pull that info up for you. Just my opinion. Good luck.

I bought something very similar. In 6/2010, I bought a 2008 E90 with only 8200 miles. It had it's 1200 service properly done, but it missed it's first annual oil change (around 5/2009), and was driven only about 6k miles until 3/2009 where it sat in a garage. The car then got it's oil changed on 6/2010 when i picked it up. 2. I feel like you can get a non-CPO 2009 E90 with around 15k miles with most options in the $47k range now. Be patient and counter offer this range. |

Thanks for the responses. I now have the autocheck and the carfax on the car and the data is just weird.
Carfax: 6/16/08 - Mileage 506, vehicle offered for sale, online listing Autocheck: 12/4/09 - mileage 506, registration/lien reported Carfax: 7/23/10 - mileage 3274, tires balanced (local non-BMW shop) And that's...it. Both say no problems reported, etc. But how can a brand new car sit on an online listing for a year and a half, accrue 0 miles, and then get registered for the first time? Something is not adding up. I asked the (again, non-BMW) dealer if they had access to the service records and said that all the seller said was that he changed the oil regularly (um?). The dealer is a major, well-known dealer (not some rinky dink used car lot) so I'd be pretty surprised if they were complicit in any shady dealings. I think at this point I'll be moving on but I would still be interested in any possible explanation for the data. |

That's what I initially thought too, but how to explain the gap from 6/16/08 to 12/4/09 where the mileage sat at 506 and 0 miles were put on the car?
No one touched this new car for a year and a half? Not even a test drive? Too weird. Unless the carfax and autocheck just malfunctioned or whatever. |

Ask the dealer if they have any cars coming back, or do you have to know somebody that is in the lease returning the car? I'm going to start M3 shopping very soon and if I can grab one for $36k I would be stoked!! |

Took a pretty huge risk, admittedly. All I had to go on were the seller's word, high res pictures, clean vehicle history, and the eBay buyer protection. I figured if I flew down and it was a disaster (WA to CA) I would just be out taxi fare and a round trip flight. |
