Obviously, it sucks, but you can't kick yourself too hard. Happens all the time in Houston. A few months ago I was on an access road in the M3 during a heavy rainstorm and suddenly came upon a stretch with a very deep pool of standing water. Saw the car ahead of me go in and stall out. I had no way of stopping in time and nowhere to go, so I slowed as much as I could and jumped the curb to my right and got up onto the sidewalk (at a little faster speed than I would have liked). Somehow, my bumper, tires and wheels were completely unscathed, but it was a really close call. That incident is actually what sealed my decision to sell the M3.

Dealerships will be busy this week with flooded cars. You guys know that a small amount of rain equals a large amount of problems around here. Hope it's not a major problem once the engine is broken down. Keep us posted............Phil

Wouldn't it be more effective to get a beater to drive in inclement weather? I mean, we live in Texas after all, which means we probably have 300 nice days a year to drive the M3.

That would have been my preference, but don't have the room for a third car.

I park my daily in the street, or in the driveway. It's not ideal, but I drove it today in the pouring rain. I was able to spend 3 hours detailing my M3 yesterday, even though I knew it would rain today. Yeah, people around here will make fun of me for having a "garage queen", but the convenience of having another car sure does make life easier.

I just updated my account information at the dealership so I have BMW Assist and BMW Roadside.

It's actually BMW Roadside where you get help for tows or jump starts.

BMW Assist offers things like unlocking your doors or tracking your stolen car.

For the M3, to call BMW Assist, just push the SOS button located where your map lights are or call 1-888-333-6118. For BMW Roadside, you have to access iDrive Main menu, choose BMW Assist, choose BMW Roadside or call 1-800-332-4269.

BMW Roadside and BMW Assist is free until expiration of your manufacturer's warranty. The free tows are only tows to the nearest BMW dealer and are unlimited until manufacturer's warranty expires. So, if you have a flat and want a tow to, for example, Discount Tire, that will cost you money.

As far as has been communicated to me, no water made it in to the cabin (hell, the water wasn't high enough), and no sensors/electronics need to be replaced. They are drying out the interior (I was wet... very wet), and going to do a flush/replacement for any and all fluids in the vehicle.

Still waiting for a call back from Progressive. They, apparently, are just as flooded as my engine

Hey, new engine for the price of your deductible...that's not so bad. You're car already had pretty high mileage.

Figured that would probably be the case, but wanted to stay optimistic while you were still out in the field.

Keep a blonde wig, 2 footballs, duct tape and a short skirt in your trunk. Got a flat? Just throw on the skirt and wig. Duct tape the footballs to your chest and throw your shirt back on. You'll get that flat fixed in no time!

Seriously, I believe BMWCCA has some roadside assistance? I would also consider a mini spare and tool kit.

Personally, I'd just call my wife for local trips. I throw a full size spare, real jack, chock, and a cordless impact in the trunk.

Oh, I'm not happy... just trying to stay optimistic .

I haven't heard anything about the value of the vehicle. They are supposed to call me "within 48 hours" to go over the figures.

I think I'll be looking for another E92, in white this time.

I'm surrounded by friends with vettes (From normal C6s to ZR-1s), and all a corvette does is remind me that speed is not everything. Hah.
