My BMW Remote app
Saw a couple of year old threads on this and read every article about it listed on other forums so instead of bumping them, I decided to start something fresh here.
Fellow member showed me this app yesterday and I thought it was pretty cool but seems to be sketchy at best around the internet boards as to whether people can get it to work on their iDevices or not. I was able to download the app to both my iPhone as well as iTouch but I cannot get past the login screen. Any new concrete info out there that hasn't been posted yet? Have you had any new luck with it Technic? |

I got mine to work yesterday, even though I don't pick up my car at PCD for another week.
I downloaded the app via UK iTunes store account I set up. I just put in my Assist password, created a PIN, and it started working. Seems like the main functionality on our cars is lock/unlock? And I guess you can locate the car on the Google map, but you have to be within 1500m. |

Info or link on this... Sad to say but I know nothing about it since I thought it's for 11 and up models.

If so, you can use the following functions with the "My BMW Remote" app installed on an Apple iPhone: •Remote Door Lock & Unlock •Remote Climate Control (BMW X3 from March 2011) •Remote Light Flash: remote control of configurable exterior light functions to locate the vehicle •Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system •Vehicle Finder: display of current vehicle position on a map in the iPhone - for locating a parked car within a radius of up to 1,5 kilometre. Or do you drive any other BMW model built from September 2008 (BMW Z4 from October 2010)? If so, you can use the following services: •Remote Door Lock & Unlock •Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system The "My BMW Remote" app can be used exclusively by customers with an active BMW Assist contract. If you have not yet activated BMW Assist, you can do so very simply at your computer by going to www.bmw.co.uk/connecteddrive and then selecting the online application form. The technical requirements for using BMW Assist are as follows: Professional or Business navigation system with integrated Bluetooth telephone preparation. The "My BMW Remote" app is available free of charge to you as a BMW Assist customer. Usage is based on the general contractual and usage conditions for mobility services with BMW Assist. Thank you for your interest in the "My BMW Remote" app. For further information on the wide range of services offered by BMW ConnectedDrive, please also consult our online portal. General questions on “My BMW Remote" app What do I need to use BMW remote functions? •You require an active BMW Assist contract. You can take out such a contract on the internet at www.bmw.co.uk/connecteddrive > complete online application form > new application. How can I activate the remote functions for my vehicle? •For details, please refer to the BMW ConnectedDrive portal (www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk) after you have taken out your contract, using the log-in data you receive by text message. Tough situation since it was never intended for the US market to begin with. That being said there is no support from the US BMW Assist team.
I had to update to 1.05 and remove/add my account credentials to get it work again with iOS5 coming from 1.04 with iOS4.

Just wondering what the rhyme or reason is as to why this works for some but not for others.

Do you need to actually complete anything on the UK side in order to make it work? I am under the impression that it will work with just the app on the phone and the BMW Assist info that was provided by the dealer right?

Nothing needed on the UK side. I tried to login with my credentials but couldn't on the UK site.

There are at least two servers where the Assist accounts are located: - Sometimes your USA account is in one server that may or may not be the same server that the UK BMW Remote uses to let you log in. - Sometimes your Assist account was initially setup before delivery somehow in one server that it is not the same server that the USA Assist will be using after your car is delivered, so the PW was changed somehow. Finding out which PW was initially set by your dealer (in the very first Assist documentation that they fill out) helps. Sometimes using the account name in capital letters helps. In my particular case, nothing works to log in. The initial PW, the changed PW, resetting the Assist UK PW at the ConnectedDrive site, using capital letters, using lower-case letters, nothing. |

If your car is still under the factory warranty you still have the it and its paid for. If your out of warranty you will have to pay for the service. Just contact them to transfer the service to you.
