BMW Performance Brake Pads

did you guys know bmw performance made pads for our cars? i was browsing and stumbled upon them. anyone here got more info on what brand they are using?

IIRC, I saw some posts which mentioned brake service, free maintenance, and swapping in these brake pads.

Other than that, have not seen any info.

But I would just go with something aftermarket like PFC or Hawk.

I believe that they are Pagid RS19's. They may or may not have the characteristic yellow paint that Pagid applies to their own branded product.

Nope, they are made by Textar. Beside some minor squeal, these pads bite excellent. Best way to enhance brake performance without spoiling the warranty. BMW equip the Ringtaxis with those pads.
I've been using them for about 80 rounds on the Nordschleife so far and I am completely happy with them.

I hear you about the Textar pads, Emil. I researched this back in 2008 when the car first was released in Canada, and you could buy these pads from BMW Canada but they were literally the Euro price converted to C$ and doubled. I kept looking for other pads.

The reason I made the Pagid connection was something that the Pagid Racing distributor in Florida said to me on the phone about BMW Motorsport liking the RS19's a lot. Back when the car was first released here, and I'm talking April 2008, there were NO performance brake parts available from anyone with the peculiar exception of the BMW Sport Pads and Pagid RS19's. If you then go over the list of BMW's that share the OEM front and rear pad outlines with the E9x M3, you discover that while the rears are shared with the M5/M6, the fronts are shared with regular 5-series cars. It didn't seem likely that Pagid would make an endurance racing pad like the RS19 for the regular 5-series. And besides, neither BMW nor Pagid listed a racing/sport pad for the 5's, so that was the end of that trail.

So those are the dots I connected, but that's all the evidence I have. That said, Pagid and Textar are both operating subsidiaries of TMD Friction. If I were Textar and my core competence was making high volume OEM ("non-performance") brake pads, I'd source a low volume specialty pad like the BMW Sport pad from a sister company that makes racing pads, and that would be Pagid. My RS19's squealed on the M3 and worked really well on the track.

As an aside, I liked RS19's so much on the BMW that I'm running them on my 2011 Mustang GT with Brembo brakes, and they work just as well, wear very slowly and don't squeal.

Really, no squeal? I've had good track results with these pads on several Porsche and BMW cars, but I found the noise unsuitable for street use. Any secret anti-squeal formula?

Yes, no squeal. I was surprised too. They squealed a little bit once they warmed up after my last track day but nothing like the school bus sound effects I've heard before. After a couple of weeks even that little bit of squealing stopped. Were it not for the prospect of ice, snow and road salt I'd have just left them on for the winter.

My RS29s are great on the street and track, also very quiet and good cold bite. Just bloody $$$$.
Next year I think Im going to install the RS29s in spring and leave them in till fall after track season.

I also hear a lot good things about the RS 19 / 29.
Maybe those Textars really are Pagids without the yellow colour and a BMW part number... why should you reinvent the wheel when it is already existing?
Sounds rather logic to me, even though i have no proof for this.
Oh and those performance pads really are as expensive as the pagids:
they cost twice as much as the oem pads, but you must install new rotors as well according to the BMW parts catalogue.

I always hear many positive things about Endless pads. I do not have any experiences with them as my M3 will (hopefully) become reality next year, but Manthey Racing did the whole 24h Nürburgring with one set of pads as a friend of mine (mechanic @ Manthey) told me. So they seem to be worth the money.

Thank you, Emil. Are you confirming that these pads are the same as Textar S4007s? I have a couple of vendors checking to see if they can source the M Performance-branded pads from BMW. Do you know where one can buy the Textar S4007s directly?

S4007 is engraved on the pads, so I can confirm this. But these seem to be BMW-exclusive, I could not find them elsewhere. Maybe you have more luck or better sources

Indeed, these pads are also referred to as "S4007" by bmwfans.info. I've found two vendors who can source them, though they are pricey.

I dug into those PNs a little further, and according to Real OEM, the front sport pads are only to be used in conjunction with rotor numbers 34112283385 and 34112283386, which are the stock rotors that come on our cars. So far so good.

However, the rear sport pads are only to be used in conjunction with rotor numbers 34212283387 and 34212283388, which are different than the PNs for the rear rotors on our cars. The PNs for our rear rotors are 34112283801 and 34112283802.

Do you happen to know what the difference between xxx387/388 and xxx801/802 might be?

According to my dealership they are tecnically identical to the oem rotors.
BMW want to sell some new rotors everytime one changes to the sport pads
My dealership installed the sport pads without changing the rotors, so there should not be any problems in terms of warranty as well.
The combination of new sport pads on used oem rotors works perfectly in my case, I could not be happier.

I never found any information about why the rotors have different part numbers. In my case it didn't matter - my Canadian 2008 E92 M3 came from the factory with the correct rotor part numbers to use the Sport pads. I just wasn't willing to pay $1600 for a set, so that was that.

While these prices aren't final, I've found them for around $800 for a set. I should know more by tomorrow.
