I agree, this mod is perfect for me. However I was thinking maybe an in-between level louder than the middle but not as loud as this. Keeping the middle completely blocked off but welding in a pipe with some small perforations in the side sections that attach to the Y pipe and then putting some stuffing in. So the hemoltz chamber would work both as a hemoltz and absorption chamber. I am not engineer so don't know if that would work but might be louder than the middle mod but a little less loud than your mod. I dont know just a thought!

Here is a picture of mine that I painted. Probably not as nice as ACM, but 5 dollar spray paint and being under the car it is completely stealth.

I realized unless you knew it was gloss black, the glare makes it look alost brown and looks like half was not painted! Assure you it is all black and that is glare!

by the way that is the OEM black/chrome edition tips since its hard to see their color in that pic. They actually match the painted can perfectly however the way the light is reflecting makes them look a bit different shades. Again I reccomend everyone do this and take the muffler OFF to paint. My ONLY point was if you cannot get it off, or needed to touch it up, you can easily touch up the visible piece or even coat it with a different black as long as the can was completely painted the first go around.

As people mentioned to completely avoid chance of overspray which really was not at all happening when I did it, best to remove the muffler but this muffler is a real pain to remove!

EDIT

I forgot to add that the great thing about this exhaust is it allows you to enjoy the nice sounds from the car through the entire rev band instead of waiting for the beautiful intake noise above 6500-7000 rpm. That means you do not have to consistently rev so high to be able to hear some great car noise/music and when you do get above 7k the roar of the intake starts to dominate and you get the same scream as stock until redline. So this is not drowning out the intake one bit.

This shows how the black really blends in and it does not grab your eyes attention like the silver can, especially with the black tips

Didn't drive my car for 2 weeks. Got back in it today, the exhaust sounds better every time I drive it

Here's my question- if you drive it conservatively around town (regular traffic acceleration and shifts around 3k) does it sound stock or is it noticeably different.
I would like to do a stealth swap with the wifey none the wiser since I had a sequoia with a Borla exhaust and the wife could not stand the noise or the drone.

3k+ is right where it starts to make itself known that it's NOT stock

Looks great! At 3k its definetly not stock! There is actually no rev range that this thing sounds stock. I think its a different animal than the other exhaust mod that is much more subtle. This is pretty aggressive in a good way IMO

These tips look good but still out too far IMO.

What tips are they?

The customer is always right Enjoying the exhaust on a daily basis.

I randomly got to drive a ferrari 430 last week for about 20 minutes (an experience that makes driving the m3 feel like driving an old pinto unfortunately) as far as what a special feeling. However the exhaust note was not a heck of a lot different than the m3 with this exhaust mod from inside the car with the windows down. Not saying it sounds the same from the outside but actually closer than most people would think and after I "debunked" someone who mentioned that!

Argg-should never look at or drive something you cannot afford. Oh well m3 is still great!

I didn't read the whole forum but wanted to ask a question. What in your opinion is the difference between doing this way and just replacing the perforated piping in the center of the can? It seems like this is better by reducing the amount of pipe and adding a easier flow for the exhaust. Agreed?
