need help with dct. please help

hi everyone

i just picked up an used 2009 m3 4dr dct(with 43xxx miles)

i have a few concerns and hope you guys can help me out :


when i start the car in the morning put the car in reverse then put it to D1 and drive off with no problem but after like driving down couple street and when i come to a complete stop , it will start me off on D2 instead of D1. is this normal ? (sorry if this is a stupid question , i m new to this )


or maybe the transmission is bad?

Yeah man its normal, i have an e92 dct and it does the same thing. It all depends on what setting you have your car at. 1 bar is comfort 5 crazy sport with traction control on, 6 with traction control off. The button is behind the shifter and you can press it left or right to change the setting. Hope this helps

it starts off at d2 for smoother take off. completely normal.

OP: Yes, if you have it in a lower setting it will start off in 2nd gear for comfort. Try setting it to D3 or higher.

d4 5 or 6 start you off in 1st gear. Never been in 1, 2 or 3 modes so cannot venture a guess
