There are things you can control, and there are some you can't. Just take care of the things you can. By all means, this car isn't cheap. I've never had anything so expensive in my hands. Yeah it hurt when I noticed a rock chip on my bumper. It's not gonna stop me from driving this thing properly. I'm discovering new things everyday. Just amazing!

I've got rock chips on my hood, a small dent on the rear quarter panel by the driver's side, tons of swirl marks and faint scratches on the clear coat for the course of almost 3 years of ownership...it all sucks but at the end of the day, it's supposed to be driven and things can happen. I have a slight case of OCD but not as bad as I did during the first year of ownership.

Holy shit. That exactly what I would have said.

lol my car is so dirty

I tracked in the rain last week and I haven't washed it yet (since I'm tracking tomorrow, and it was scheduled to rain again in the week [which it did] I didn't feel like getting it cleaned)

I actually don't remember the last time I got a car wash..I think it's been like 2 months... lol

I have the same obsessions that you do when it comes my M. Lately, I've gotten over it because despite having a few rock chips on the bodywork and one tiny one on my windshield, my car still goes and sounds amazingly. I've started treating it less and less like a $1,000,00 hypercar (but I still park far away and change lanes when I see a semi) and more like a very fast 3-series.

I plan on respraying the front bumper entirely, which will not only fix any rock chips but will also get rid of my license plate holes and reflectors, then getting a clear bra to cover my bumper, hood, quarter panels, and mirrors. In all honesty, keeping my car looking and running like new is more important to me than getting an extra 5hp or losing an extra 5lbs.

It's hell. I avoid washing my car sometimes for fear of what I may find, found some little scratches on my trunk, not sure when they happened, or how...

Exactly right. The more OCD I get about noises and rattles, I find that I'm paying attention to bs more and not enjoying the car. Whn I focus on music and driving, it's just pure bliss.

All my previous cars I took immaculate care of just so it could it sold in pristine condition to the new owner, so basically I took all that effort in cleaning an maintaining just for someone else to enjoy. Well, those days are over

I used to be OCD but since I started going to the track I've given up on it. As an earlier poster said...the more you care, the more goes wrong.

...and nothing had gone wrong with my M except for 3 rock chips. Not bad!

If you are OCD about your ///M, a daily beater is a MUST!

While I agree we're all careful and want ZERO blemishes on our cars, the sooner you can get over it, the better. Fussing over every little scratch, swirl, etc. takes away from just enjoying the car for what it is.

With that, I think it's time to get a detail...haha.

I used to be the same exact way (I still am a bit) but what if you actually intend on "driving" the car then blemishes are inevitable. I went through clear bras, repainting bumpers, all kinds of things and finally just had to let go a little.

Forget it!

Do a track day & spin on to the grass
Load some kids into it let 'em drink the juice, eat pop corn the whole works
Then take the dog to the park (if its small) with 1 only towel on the seat beside you.
Grin the whole time.
That's why I've got an M3

Cheers

YES...My girlfriend thinks its PATHETIC that I yell at her for putting her feet up on the dash, and also when I park an extra 40 yards away so I don't risk getting door dings.

I also had a tiny scratch on the leather repaired, that most couldn\'t even tell was there. I thought getting a clearbra would help assuage my fears, but no luck.

Am I nuts or is this common behavior with an M? My wife already thinks out of my mind, so feel free to be honest, lol.
If you're crazy, then make some room on that bandwagon. I've never been as obsessed with keeping a car pristine as I have the M. Only imperfections mine have are a small rock chip in the windshield and under the bumper scratches (that can only be seen from lying on the ground) from bottoming out a few times.

Yes, completely agree with this. Short of a collector's vintage car, how much value are you really going to lose with a little wear on the car exterior and interior? Long as the important parts of the car (the fun ones on the M3 -- engine, chassis, suspension) are fine, f the rest
