If the e60 M5 had M-DCT...

Would you still be in an M3? I know I sure as hell would either be in a M5 or in an M5 and an M3 I love my M3 but I had my heart set on the M5 because the glorious s85, ability to fit 4 adults in comfort, and huge trunk. Just couldn't live with the smg for 405 traffic and I don't buy weekend cars. Nowadays everytime I see an M5 I always think "if only...". BMW royally fudged what could've been the G.O.A.T. bimmer.

No, not a chance. The M5 is too heavy for my liking compared to an M3.

2008 BMW M5  [3.44]
Grass isn't always greener....this from an e60 M5 owner who misses the nimbleness and performance of a M3.

Love the M5 too.

But yeah, it would be nice if the e60 M5 had DCT due to reliability issues with SMG.

Yeah the M3 is just much more nimble. What I would actually think would be idea is an M3 with an M5 engine and a few more inches of leg room.

Clean cars are happy cars!

Even with the SMG I very often see them and wonder if I made the wrong decision. When I bought my m3 I really wanted something new and with lots of warranty left. I was not kean on a used M car even though I know the deals were awesome. I know its my own OCD but either way it was weighing heavily to want a new car. I also really only wanted silverstone and although you could find one, it was tough to meet all criteria.

With that said, I saw one at the dealer the other week and it still sparkles in my eye. I have driven one a handful of times and the pulling power at freeways speeds is worth the price of admission and is probably one of the two biggest things I think the m5 really kills the m3 in-engine sound of gloriosu s85 and freeway pulling power.

Low speed city driving the m3 takes the cake but once you hit 60mph and you want to pull like a freight train, there is just no comparison to how the m5 pulls against the quite meager m3 in comparison.

I would like to get a pristine used one in the relatively near future to add to my cars as a weekend car. Always thought the e60m5 was truly the closest thing to the sound and engine feel of an F1 car which we all only dream about!

not for me...the v10 didn't float my boat, nor did the terrible gas mileage combined with too small i never warmed to the exterior looks at all...i kept my e39 m5 for 9 years until i bought the e92 m3...the dct is great, but it would not fix all of the things that kept me out of an e60.

We have a winner....
