New 2012 M3 missing factory standard features

I've been a long time lurker on these forums and today I finally got my JB 2012 e92 M3 after waiting for it for almost 3 months (It came on the Cronus Leader which arrived at port last tuesday) ! I guess it was about time to register!

So something seems off with my car:

- It is supposed to have bluetooth, but the menu doesn't display it as a configurable feature
- I ordered PDC (it is on the sticker too) My rear bumper has the PDC sensors, but my dash is missing the PDC button. Did I mention it doesn't work either?
- 2012s should come with the usb/ipod adapter, though unfortunately they forgot to install this in my car as well.

Tomorrow I will call my CA, but I am wondering if anybody on this forum has had experience with missing factory standard features. Maybe they built my 2012 car as a 2011?

Cheers

I've never seen the PDC button.. when I put it in reverse then the screen displays a back up sensor and it starts beeping.

Something doesn't seem right... are these features listed on the sticker but not found on the car?

As far as the park assist, there is no button, you simply put the car in reverse and it should kick in.

Yep, all those features are listed on the sticker. In fact, the ipod/usb adapter and bluetooth now come standard on all 2012 m3s. Regarding the PDC, that does indeed work - my mistake. I went by the manual which is depicting the PDC button and was testing it without turning the ignition fully on (which I thought I did).

So regarding the USB feature, I would assume there would be a USB connector next to the aux jack correct? And to enable bluetooth, the manual is stating you have to go to MENU and it should show a BT option. Mine is missing.

Thanks for your feedback, guys.

1. Look for the SOS button on roof console.
2. Look for USB port under armrest.
3. Remove trunk floor liner and look for the Combox module.

If any of those items are not in your car then you need to talk seriously with your dealer about the missing standard option.

The dealer can retrofit the Combox if they try hard enough, so do not accept any "no can't do" crap:

What dealer did you get the car from?

You have to remember that the manual you have is for the 3 series and not just the M so pics may be different from what you have.

What the OP apparently is missing is standard equipment, regardless of manual.

True but he was using the manual which told him there was a button for PDC which on the M there is not.

Yeah, none of those features exist in my car. It did came with the alarm system, which (if I'm not mistaken) is a standard feature for 2012 models only.
I had a discussion with my CA regarding bmw-assist. It wasn't mentioned on the sticker and I was claiming it was supposed to be standard equipment. He said it wasn't.

BMW of mountain view. Yeah, I knew about the generic manual. I messed up on the PDC part. I remember reading your car was on the same boat as mine, did you pick yours up already?

BMW Assist is an option on BMW USA for any car I believe. I don't know if it's standard but I know if you buy at the dealer they tend to throw it in for you.

Wow, somebody seriously dropped the ball on that car. He's apparently missing 2 important features that are now standard. I'd be pissed.

Look at the door jam sticker... what is the production date of your M3?

Ordering guide for 2012 M3 SOP 09/11 (option 7H8 = BMW Assist w/Enhanced BT & USB = Combox = standard):

Exactly what options did you get? BT & BMW Assist is standard when you order the "Premium Package" or as a la carte options. They are not included in the base build of the car for MY2012 if selected as a "No Cost" option. I'm guessing that you didn't get the PP and your dealer didn't select the no cost "BMW Assist w/enhanced BT & USB" option. Go build a car on-line and you will see what I am talking about.

That's incorrect... look at the PDF above.

Go build a car on-line and you will see what I am talking about. You can say that "Standard" is a no cost option but you can unselect the option. Perhaps "Dealer Speed" works the same way.

I know what you are talking about, however that's the same online configurator that does not include the Gas Guzzler Tax and does not allow extended leather with 7KB option...

The online configurator is not a good reference for anything related to actual ordering.

A dealer decontenting standard equipment from a car is not something even worth mentioning. It is just not possible. What is possible -and there are a couple of examples in this forum alone- is sudden changes in production where cars are equipped with substitute equipment (HiFi replaced by Stereo systems, electronic replaced by manual AC controls, Combox replaced by MULF and such).

What apparently happened here is that standard equipment simply was not installed at all.

I did see that and that would explain the missing bluetooth and bmw assist. However it would not explain the missing iPad / usb adapter. That feature is actually listed on the sticker, just missing in the car.

Production date of the car is 10/11.

I indeed didn't get the premium package - just the 19 inch wheels, EDC and PDC.

Right, but then they should have omitted it from the sticker, correct? Anyway, this is probably exactly what has happened. At the time I ordered my car you couldn't even configure a 2012 specced car using the website. Can't see as a customer what I could have done differently. Should I have listed all the standard features that come with the car when I placed the order? I think not. Dealership should make this right.

Your car was ordered correctly, it was built incorrectly.

Either the online configurator, the online list of standard equipment or even the downloadable list of standard equipment at bmwusa, all have errors. For example, the standard list of options show BT and iPod/USB but no Assist. Then Assist shows up as optional equipment or part of the Premium Package, but then the Premium Package does not include Assist. The Nav includes the Assist, BT and iPod USB but at $1350 -because 7H8 is standard. Assist shows as a no cost option, just because it is standard.

If you use any of those with your dealer to argue this issue you will lose the argument. You must use the ordering guide posted above or the one below, those were sent to me by BMWUSA directly when I was ordering my car:

Technic is 100% correct - use the ordering guide, and only the ordering guide, when discussing your standard equipment issues with the dealer. All of us that ordered early prduction week 2012s have already gone thru this, for various reasons, and the ordering guide is your only "friend".
